has anyone ever swapped in a auto s2 control linkage into a series 1 car? my series one has a cable system that sucks and s2 has a rod type sytem that is easier to use, more precise and has less play. I will do this if it is as simple as getting the bits from the wreckers and swapping them. Anyone done it or know if it can be done?? ta

You can convert the "****" series 1 auto cable linkage to the "Better" series 2 rod linkage. Yeah get the parts from a wreck and you will be cruiseing in no time. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

when i put my s1 gear into the s2 shell, it already had the rod linkage for the gearbox. hooked that up easy as to the gearbox, better feel to it, less play, more responsive.

the cable stretches and makes gear selection inaccurate. also if D is not selected properly damage can be done. apparently it is possivle to have it half in gear. My auto mechanic told me that this was the cause of many failures and this is why they changed it for the s2. He said it will be well worth the effort. Rod mechanism is much smoother and has no trouble getting out of P. Mine is very solid.
