Hey guys i seem to be having a problem wif me transmission. and was wonderin if any1 else has experienced this problem or knows whats wrong wif it. heres how is goes, hope it makes sense. select drive - and it stays in first and doesnt change gear. select first - does what it should select second - does what it should change from second to drive - holds second, and when u slow down it drops back to first **heres what really pissed me off** i limped it to transmission shop and told the guy whats happenin, then he took it for a lap. he come back told me to get in and it was running fine. on the way back it got stuck in first again heh lucky, saved me from looking like a ****head. He said it could be a sticky govenor which is found inside transmission but thats just a guess, and he wants $270 to look at it, and if its not that he reckons about $2000 for a recond box. i dont exactly have money to throw away on "could be" problems. i was hoping some1 has had this problem b4 and hopefully its a cheap fix. otherwise another option will be converting to manual and any info on this including a full parts list will be very useful. cheers chris

Same thing happened to my mates R31 skyline Jatco gearbox right before it died. I would pay the $270 (yeah I know money doesnt grow on trees) and if its a small problem then great, money well spent. $2000 for a reco box is a bit steep though, keep looking around man. you can get em here in Brissie for about $1600 reco and thats decent quality too. Hope it works out.

hey, i know what your problem is, when i first got my VL, it had a stuffed auto (shuddering overdrive) so a second hand auto was put in, this was stuffed too (was grinding metal and wouldn't change gears when it was cold, i was told it was sticky valves) so my uncle who i got the car off put in a reco auto which was bout $1200, i didn't hav to pay as it was included with the car , but i'd put a manual in if i had to do it again!!! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

If its stuffed, GO THE MANUAL CONVERSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me on this one, my auto packed in, went and got the cheapest reco I could find, 1200 compared to 1800 odd everywhere else, then about 13 months down the track (just out of warranty) the ****er packs up and causes an accident!!!!!!!! If only I had gone a manual, more fun, faster and wouldnt' have to worry about frigging vacum lines getting full of friggin oil! There is my rant for the day Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'm having the same problem as mentioned. Stuck in 1st. The box was rebuilt 12 months ago, the O/D ****ed up about 3 months ago and the box was repaired. Now its stuck in 1st. I can manually select second but thats it. I'm told it could be the valves in the govenor or **** in the valve body. It ****in sucks! I'm 2.5 hours from melb where the box was rebuilt and do you think they will help me! I wont directly meantion names..... but these ****s are RODENTS! if you know what i mean! Any ideas?
