hey, was wonderin what the difference in sound loss is between an air tight box that isn't air tight and has gaps on all joins and a proper box? also if doing a dodgy job and having gaps on the edges would fibreglassing the corners help get good sound form the box?

Having gaps in it is going to sound marginly different, and you'd be best to seal any gaps up. When you build it, make sure you use heaps of liquid nails and stuff in the gaps. And i guess fibreglass may work.

Fiberglass will work, but then you will prolly reduce the volume of be box quite a lot, which is going to affect sound too. I've said this a few times in previous posts, but it is very worthwhile to get someone who knows what they are doing (preferably with one of those huge ass saws used in cabinet making places) to at least cut the mdf for you. Then when it is put together, there is minimal chance of gaps.

do you need a divider between each sub making it 2 boxes in one? rob u've heard mine and it hasn't got a divider in it, would having them seperate make any difference?

i am a cabby. pay me to make one. and as mobil hrt said its always preferable to use a panel saw (big mofo saw hehe) so u get a clean cut straight edge.

Just make sure you plan the sizes beforehand I've seen people go "yer, that'll be right" and end up with the wrong size box Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah thats another point, build the box to the size specified by the manufacturer.

Julian mate it would make a heap of difference with a divider in that box... Still sounds alright though

I dont think it would make any driffrence at all!!.. asuming you make the box's the EXACT same size!!.. if not they will peek at diffrent freq's.. possibly canceling out sound waves, = less duff duff :> If any gain, it would be from reducing the flex in the box its self, nothing to do with the volume,.. idd make a devider,. then cut out a 6" hole in the middle of it!! (sorry about the late post :>

divide it, if you dont then your are pretty much making your box 2 times too big (not exactly) both subs running in the same direction would cause too much pressure on each other (going inwards) when excursioning they would be loosing too much pressure inside the box (hence whats happens in an incorrect box size) so in other words the box ends up being too big and too small at the same time!! understand?? if not email me, ill explain more. Put the divider in and make sure its all sealed using some nice speaker sealant SHHHWWEEEEEET Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
