Hey, I have just recently purchased a calais front end for my exec. Ive got a few questions for people that have done this conversion before. How hard is it to do? Do the electrics match up to the exec electrics? Is there any modification that is need to be done to the bodywork? Also with insurance, seen as i am changing the bodywork of my car, i will have to tell my insurance company about the modification. Has anyone had any problems with insurance companies? And would i need to change my registration papers? Nath, you may be able to help me out with this one!! Cheers, Scott Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

not sure about the electrics, but it should all just bolt in (might need the calais 1/4 panels - not sure on this one though) you do not need to change any rego papers as the car is still an exec - no mod plates, or engineers certs are nessacary as the calais nose cone came as a factory option (Calais) on that model car (VL). probably a good idea to tell the insurance company - so if some wanker crashes into the front of your car, you get a new calais front, not an exec front. Also if someone steals the car, and they find it with a calais front, they may refuse to pay you any money.

scott mate.. want me to pop round say tomorrow (thursday) to help you fit it? ive taken mine off a few times so im sure i could handle helping you if you like.. mine was all ceased up when i got it, so i took it off, pulled it apart, greased it and then put it back together and straightened it all up! electrics shouldnt be too hard, you need a new relay, i think its just one wire from the headlights on it and it sits right near the batteries. i rewired mine too coz the relay connections were coming off when i bought the car.

nah nath i think ill just have it sitting in the shed for a while until i get another job. I wanna get it painted before i put it on as well. As for insurance, they are not gonna cover me because ive only got 3rd party fire and theift and therefore they dont cover me for any modification over $500 which sucks  hopefully when i get a new job ill be able to afford comprehensive.. Looks like im gonna be still driving around for a while with a slightly dented front end   oh well, things can only get better Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

no modification over $500 ????? fark that.. who is that through ??? when i first got insurance on my VL (lowest rating, no previous insurance, 19 yrs old, on P's) on 3rd party Fire and theft, RACQ allowed me a $2000 stereo, $700 exhaust and a $500 tint job - all listed on the policy for no extra cost...
