Just read in the Age newspaper today that the next series commodore( VZ?) will have a turbocharged V6 going into the lineup. The new V6 that they are building will be 190KW standard and then instead of a supercharger (a la S pac and XU6), they will be turbocharged. Sounds great, but Ford now have a head start on them by about 2 or 3 years at that stage. I don't know all the facts and figures (anyone?) so please don't turn this into another argument, I know that you aren't all that immature.

holden's V6 is untouched from VX - VY. the VYII will be using a completely new V6 engine. DOHC aswell i think. VYII out next year

I didn't say that the VX-VY sixes were going to changed. I actually stated the next series of commodores. Sorry if my post caused you some confusion.(please note humorous sarcasm, and don't take offence as so many people would)

Im sorry if this is a bit off topic but... With every holden, Ford, and also other types of cars that bring out a new model, mostly have a power increase in there motors. Why are all the police and campaigns reducing the speed limits and getting more strict when you can only do a certain speed. If they are complaining about "speed kills" then why bring out cars with more power. If we really want to build a safer society and decrease the road tolls then install cars with better braking systems, better crumbel zones, traction control, airbags, etc. Turbos, intercoolers and superchargers are leathal if the wrong person is behind the wheel.. espcially in the wet.

just had a look thru all of my MOTOR mags (took till the 3rd last one dammit! (June 2001 issue)) to find the power outputs for all of holden's new engins..due end 2003 4 turbo charged engines: 3.2DOHC turbo - 239.4kW @ 5500rpm; 493.3Nm @ 2000rpm !!!! 3.2DOHC turbo - 188.6kW @ 5500rpm; 353.9Nm @ 1750rpm !!!! 2.8DOHC turbo - 216.0kW @ 5500rpm; 403.4Nm @ 2000rpm !!!! 2.8DOHC turbo - 171.6kW @ 5500rpm; 336.7Nm @ 2000rpm !!!! The atmo engine most likely to be used will be: 3.8DOHC V6 - 187.1kW @ 6000rpm; 356.1Nm @ 3000rpm

This happened once before, with the Phase 4 and whavever the torana was called. Can't wait for the government to step in again. I mean seriously how many mum's out there need 180+kw in a standard commodore and falcon??

I agree with Mobil here, i was thinking the other night... whats the point of base models with so much power... i mean base models are bought for work hacks or mummy trucks. I guess it now just means that mum can get the kids to school a bit quicker. I can understand the performance models but base models with 180+kw.... WHY?

I agree... leave power to the enthusiasts... not the everyday gramps... this won't help insurance much either...

with every new model (holden & ford in this case) The power ratings have risen due to the performance of the brakes increasing also. The impact zones are revised and safer, the handling is improved, and last but not least, the cars visit mcdonalds for lunch everyday for 3yrs, and pack on a substantial amount of weight. The XT falcon (base model BA for those who dont know) has increased its kerb weight by a massive figure over that of the AUIII, it has much better suspension, and mush better brakes, and a much better engine. It needs the extra 25kw over the AU to move it around smoothly now that its a fat *******. Same goes for holden, it put on wieght did it not, and hence needed some extra punch, oh wait, the motor is the same, V8 has got more power to keep up now with ford Thats why they have more power, so they dont struggle to do what the old car did so easily. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i have to agree, the power on standard vehicles doesnt need to be higher every year. but i think we have to face facts, approx 15 years ago, fuel injection became standard on most new vehicles, maybe in another 5 years time turbochargers will become standard. just a thought

modern cars may have more power standard, but they aren't much faster then previous models. If you look at the weight of the new Falcon compared to an AU, the BA has about 350KG's+ more. plus, if holden and Ford don't move along with technology, they will left behind.

sure the power goes up every year but the weight dose to so i was wondering if the power to weight goes up much. Also do the o-100 and 0-400 times get much better in the new models i prolly could have had a look to find this out but i dont think they have changed much have they?

yeah was reading either motor or wheels mag & the new VY SS is spose 2 run 13.9@105 (168km/h) & the new clubbie is only quoted at 14.1,so what's the deal there? they have more go,they just gotta get it 2 the ground why don't they bring out a stripped version, they would be running low 13's surely 8O

wtf r u sure the ss is suposed to be quicker than the clubby cause id doubt it but maybe kinda defeats the purpose of having a clubsport then hey just buy the ss and save some $$$ mmmmmmmmmmm with the money u could save u could strap on a supercharger Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Those times sound a bit fast for stock commodores anyway. Don't the vx clubbies only run low 15's, or were they just piss poor divers that I saw at calder???
