Why is my car hesitating on acceleration

Hi everyone, I am having a problem with my VLt. When I accelerate a bit hard, my car hesitates, like its starving for fuel or air and then about 1 second later it just jerks. I have noticed my fuel pump is making a loud buzzing sound lately. Could it be the fuel pump or is it something else? The leads an plugs and fuel filter are new.

does it blow black smoke or is there a black stain of soot around tailpipe?

hey guys, i had a similar problem a while ago. when i accelerated my car would ping quite a bit so i wasn't getting anywhere near the amount of accelleration i should have been getting. took it to ultra tune and they said my car was running ultra lean because the injectors were foobah'd. they then made the AFM think more air was going in so the comp would put in more fuel. this was just a temp fix until i can get some new injectors... Now i still don;t have the injectors and i think the problem is coming back as i am getting some MEGA lag. i think it is because of the lean problem at low revs need to get those injectors. Also does your car(s) have trouble starting when the engine is cold? tell me what you find out about the fuel pump, cause i get the same prob when my tank hits 1/3 full. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have a bit of trouble starting the car when its cold. It seems like its not getting enough fuel and the revs are very low for a few seconds when it first stats and then the revs gradually go up to normal. I just hope my injectors aren't stuffed, but if they are, then they have to be replaced I guess. I hope its the fuel pump instead, as its a cheaper option Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

just have a look around the forums, i think you will find heaps of poeple are sell their original injectors pretty cheap around $200 for the set. It is then fairly cost effective to get the ends of these flowed. you don't really need those expensive bosch 450 - 500cc injectors unless you are pushing out some serious KW's Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Sounds like you need to adjust the AFM to a richer setting. Try adjusting it to a reading of 338 Ohms measuring off pins 1&6.

Are you putting in standard injectors or after market ones? Anyone know much about the powerflow injectors? Apparently they give a bit more flow.

May be a stupid suggestion but your alternator is fine?? I had mine die and she looked fine untill i accelerated. Then it'd cut out almost.

My car gets a bit of black soot on the rear bar too but this is just overfuelling from when I nail it, Ive dialled in 11psi but havent had the computer changed or anything else done. I had the timing retarded to 10degrees as well (down from 15) just to avoid detonation. Just a sort of protection for the engine, fuel economy is out the window though.

ok guys i MIGHT have the solution to your problem mine is a N/A 6cyl, and when i first bought it, there was a loud gurgling noise from the fuel tank, like it was starving for petrol. As well as that, there was a big lag with sudden accelleration - even to the point where sitting at the lights, light goes green, accellerate, and the car almost stalling because of it. Anyway i went out and got the IN-TANK fuel pump replaced (just to start off with, i might have had to replace the external pump too), because i knew from the sound of it that it was gone. Turns out that is was pushing f*$k all petrol through it due to low pressure. i got a new one $150 installed, and now, no more lag when accellerating, and no more noise! So if you see/hear the fuel pump as a problem, i think you should consider replacing it. it solved my problems

Hi guys, I have replaced my fuel pump as I thought it might have been that, but its still hesitating. I had a look at the pump that was on it previously but it was a non turbo one. The person that had my car replaced it with a non turbo VL pump. I put a turbo one in this time. Apparently the VLt fuel pumps give a lot more flow and can handle more kw. The part numbers are different as well. I am guessing that maybe the reason for the hesitation could be due to clogged or stuffed injectors as having a N/A fuel pump on the car for some time, the injectors did not receive enough fuel and proper flow which might have damaged the injectors. What are your thoughts on this? What else could it be? It only happens on load and when i accelerate hard.

did you replace the external or the internal pump, aparantly the internal pump is the one you should be looking at also when i had this problem, i took the car to ultra tune...for $140 they found tested my injectors and found that they were fubar'd, also because of this, my car was running really lean which would explain the hesitation, so they tricked the computer by fiddling with the AFM to make it think more air was coming in so more fuel was being pumped to bring it up to normal air/fuel mixture...give this a go. so i replaced my injectors only to find the problem still rests with the internal pump ....saving to get that replaced as we type. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I replaced the external pump. I bought the internal one but haven't replaced it as yet. I will give it a crack this weekend. I would have thought that is was more likely to have been the external one as it is high pressure, where the internal one is low pressure??? I don't know, i will change it this weekend and see how we go.
