is it only in 5th??
It could just be a sound matting has worn away or something and by the time you hit 5th its more obvious.
On a technical front i have no idea but does sound weird.
when u reach a certain rpm the sound waves from combustion are going to reach a certain frequency (intensity)...the point at which u notice the loudness may be the point at which the sound waves are reflected upon each other in a way that would create resonance (amplification of sound).
rpm #1 ) ) ) ) ) [ (note: ))=sound waves, [= obstruction like exhaust)
rpm # 2 - increased frequency and reflection of sound waves
)))))))) [ -------> )()()()()()()[ = resonance and loudness
if this theory is correct youre gonna hear this in every gear at a certain rpm but u may only notice it in 5th cause youre more than likely cruising and not concentrating as much on driving as you would when youre accelerating
could be right, could be wrong but thats all i could think of for now

i don't think it's what you said slippery because it never use to do it, it's only just started in the past couple of weeks.thanks anyway champ

Top course straight A's in science, physics, bio and chemistry eh Slippery?? You seem a wiz at science explainations 8O
I must admit it sounds wierd only being loud in that gear, u sure its only 5th it does it in?? :?

well are u dead certain its ur exhaust then... coz in theory what slippery vl explained there would be a certain point in every gear.... the same as my mates n/a vl manual does....
