Hi, i just wanna know where the subbie goes when you chuck it in the boot. Every car ive been in has the fold down seat with the subbie showin through. Doesnt the bass get muffled through the seat? Or do you somehow get the subbie through the parsel shelf? Can a 4 channel amp run a twelve inch Sub and 2 6*9's???

From my personal experience with subs, I'll say this. YOU DONT WANT A SUB NEAR YOUR HEAD EVER! Bass isnt position descernable, which means you could have it coming from wherever you want and you cant really tell the difference. Having it in the boot just provides it with a big box. I dont think you could really "muffle" bass with the rear seat, as long as you had decent speakers to pick up the mid and high in the actual car. Bass doesnt necessarily need to be clearly audible. Take a band for instance, you rarely clearly hear bass in songs (except maybe tool, or if you just listen REALLY hard). My mate has a hatch-back astina, and he has two 7*10's and a sub on the parcel shelf within a foot of your ears. If he puts the head unit up past about 28 (it goes to like 40 or 50) you're nearing deafness, and this is coming from a guitarist in a band. He has a 4 channel amp powering the sub and 7*10's and two speakers in the front (I've forgotten what they are) and it's **** for anything but full on bass, IMO. He has the rear speakers and sub all connected from what I understand. You definately want at least one channel for your sub, and then separate channels for your other speakers, if possible. If you're running 4 speakers and a sub, get either a 5 channel amp, or dont amp two speakers. If your sub and amp are capable of it, maybe run the two front speakers in your car of two channels, then bridge two channels for the sub, and have the rear running as fill, but I have only a basic understanding of how it all works, so maybe you'll get more help from my88vl.

Oh, and to answer your ACTUAL question  , you can put the subbies anywhere you like in the boot. Ive seen them sitting at the back of the rear seat facing the rear of the car, or facing the back seat, or on the floor of the boot facing up, OR on the floor of the boot facing down, etc. DONT put your sub in your parcel shelf (i explained with the astina) and also it's much easier for ****heads who feel like they want your sound system, to see it and try to break into your car. Also, your rear-fill of mids and highs will be uber-gay. Yes, I would assume your amp can run the sub and two 6*9's, depending on the power of the amp and the sub...

Try facing the sub forwards, backwards, upwards, to the side, etc and just find which place you prefer it comming from. You will be suprised how much difference facing a sub forwards or backwards can make. Also, yes the rear seat will baffle the sound a little, but its only minimal, not enough to really worry about.

You havent been in my mate's astina though It ****ing nearly blows my head away, and it's literally 12" from my ear, so I get out ****ing DEAF. I reckon if you want your friends in the back seat to STAY your friends, you dont put it in the parcel shelf...unless you hate them and want them deaf anyway Each to their own Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

well... mine for most of the time is pointing into the boot, and mounted in a nice looking backing board But thats more or less the completly wrong way to do it, however, I need my boot space! I've also got a box, and have the sub facing upwards in the general directoin of the parcel shelf, but not actually in it, sounds a LOT better like this, way better If I could be bothered making a weird box arrangement to fit in with the hump at the back of the VL boot i't be sweet Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i have a custom box facin outward from my back seat in the vl... im more then willing to go up against someone with a vl with them facing them inward or in the parcel shelf to see if it sounds better... but i think it comes down to personal choice of how u like ur music... play around with the positionin of the sub for ur own liking.. personally i like my music like it plays at a live concert.. everything is very clear and u feel the punch..... not overcrowded by bass or treble etc.... exactly how i have my system set up cheers Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

You will find having the subby in a box with the sub facing out the bootlid eg. on a 45 degree angle and the box sitting in the middle of your boot(eg. back of the box against where the boot goes up to the seat) will provide the best bass both inside and outside the car. This has been tested and proven by myself with the approriate equipment....But of course it MAY depend on what size box you are running, how many subbies and if the box is sealed or ported....But generally facing out the boot on a 45 degree angle is usually best IMHO..... I'll second that i found the same thing out by playing around with it in different positions with my 800w 10'' pioneer. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Ive been to Maroochy Car Sound, Brisbane Car Sound, Strathfeild and heaps more, and they all say, that it sounds better different ways. Currently i have 2 12" Fusion subs facing the towards the boot (Maroochy Car Sound said that the sound is better projeted out of the Back Of the Sub) and that sounds fine, not to bassy and not to Soft. Mind you I have a 2 channel 1000W Fusion Amplifier just running them. Running the front splits off an amplifier is mandatory if there is alot of bass, but leaving your 6x9's just off the head unit would be allright. I paid a mint for a pioneer head unit, which is MOFSET 50wx4 and that runs the 6x9's very well. If you ask me, id face the sub/s towards the boot. That way they can be seen by people. Dont put subs in the parcel shelf. For 1. Your car will get stolen by some f**ker. 2. They are only meant for jap cars and little hatchback s**ts. :!: Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
