i am looking into buying a mates vl calais and he has a big sound system in it already and i got these speakers in my room which are bout 1 metre high and bout 50cm wide they have a 10 inch sub in it a 5 inch speaker and a tweeter. i have two of these if i put them in the back seat of the car can i wire them up to the current rear speaker so that they are running also while the rear speakers work too if u kno wot i mean. these are some seriously big speakers i blow my ears off in my own room let alone it is a bedroom which is bout 6m by 6m already. will it over power the amp or blow anything up in the car if i do this.... thankyou

I haven't tried it, but i very much doubt it would be any good for either the speakers or the amp.
Car audio isn't the same stuff as home audio so i'd be a bit worried about it running.
Not to mention that if you want to sit these big speakers in boxes on your back seat, you'll want to have a pit bull in the front seat or a fuggin good security system to keep the theives away.
see my brother put those same speaker in the boot of his old honda prelude but he put only 1 . got some good clear sound outa em. see i wana put 2 in but im not sure bout the wiring concept. =/ thnx 4 ur help dude
car audio is 12V
home audio is 240V
ive never seen this done before.. but u would be able to just the power would be lackin i would think... if u wanted some real punch...
i know a mate of mine brought a 10" sub from brisbane car sound for $15 :P and ran it off his dvd amplifier in his room (home audio) and it goes pretty hard and still hasnt blown up... so yeah thats weird coz thats 240V into a 12V sub.. probably wouldnt be a whole 240.. but somethin bigger then 12.....
u might be better off unscrewin all the speakers and mountin them separate into the car.... that way u aint got no big bitch box layin inthe back seat :P
Mike is right, there is a huge power difference between Car & Home audio.
You would be better selling the speakers you have to fund the purchase of new ones designed for the Car.
voltage isnt used tho in audio
you need to look at the impedence (ohmage)
Car audio is generally 4ohms, whereas home speakers will likely be 8ohms
Running home speakers in a car is no problem at all. Like everything, they would work better of an amp rather than the deck
k thnx dude(s)
ill be tryin to sell my stepdads f100 soon
if u kno any1 interested or wheres a good place to sell it besides the trading post let me kno thnx
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
just like silver_ice said car audio uses 4ohms and home audio uses 8ohms. so its just a matter of getting the 8ohms from a car app to run the home speakers. to do this all u have to do is bridge two channels on the car amp and connect to one speaker. if u want two speakers u will need 4 channels either for one 4 channel amp our two 2 channel amps.
you can re-wire the speakers in the box to 4ohms im pritty sure you can anyways their are heaps of sites around for guitar quad box's find one and they have easy pic's to look at . i was thinking about doing this with my Celestion 12' , 4 of those in one big box = insane bass :P HAHa
