Any major advantages with either? I hear the standard V8 is quite restrictive, but you can get good results. Is this the case? Any1 had good results with a V8? I'm taking it they don't go anywhere near as good as a VN SS V8 because they are quite impressive. Any1 know the power difference between a stock VL V8 and a VL Turbo?

vl v8's are pointless really because the turbo is so much better. v8's were marketed as a guys toy, and normally seen towing a boat, or a caravan. vlt has higher kw's and is just an all around better car.

hey man.. the dude you're after is Kris aka RooF.. he used to own a rather neat vl v8, that i recall being a expersuit.. so it had a lil more poke than the average vl v8.. but anyway give him a buzz, either on here or PM, and yeah i'm sure he can answer a few of ur q's ! cheers Ollie

Advantages are the 6 is fuel injected and runs unleaded. Where the V8 was carbed and ran Super. And the RB30 is tuff **** with more performance potential without opening the engine. The VN SS was superior because it was fuel injected.

this question has been asked and answered a thousand times, really should go search through the messages.. VL V8 was 122kw stock, slow POS in standard form. give it an exhaust and air filter power is increased, just like turbo VL turbo was 150kw i think, much more advanced better package hands down.. very easy to get 13 sec passes (manual) without much outlay. Its such a horses for courses debate, any car can have good results with the right time and money spent on it, but it the end, capacity always wins. I had some good results in my VL V8 if you are interested.

I have a VL Cal V8.. yup they are only a measly 122kw, but I love it nevertheless.. and work can be done to them ) Go with what you'd prefer - if you are after power/speed - go the turbo, if you like V8's then get that - it's always personal preference

The VL V8's run unleaded fuel.

As do the turbos.. (run unleaded)... but that was the V8's 'demise' - unleaded and HEAPS of emissions.. the VK V8 is faster

If you want to know about the V8 vs Turbo then go and read the magazine article on the CalaisTurbo website with the 5spd Calais turbo vs the Group A. After reading it you will come to one conclusion. You will want to own a HDT Turbo. Corsa Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeh but I think just about anyone, would prefer the sound of a nice, thumping V8, put it this way, even tho it may b slower, i would much prefer the v8 :0)

Back when i was young and stupid (2 years ago) i raced heaps of V8's, VS SS, VN calais, VG ute, VN interceptor, VL Grp A (clamed 250kw) and bet them all!! And the only mods done to my Vl calais turbo manual was a full 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust and 12psi of boost. Come to think of it, the only race i've lost was to a VC 308. He said the only mods he'd done was a 3000rpm stall... but found out after he left me for dead he had spent some real coin on it... Ahh is easy to see which is the better performer Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ill be very bold Go the VL TURBO anyday. I applaud nissan for their well built literally bullet proof motors. its all up to personal preference though.. I love the thrill when boost kicks in and throws you back like a bus to the back of the head Cheers - Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

OK, i will admit it. I was tossing up between a Calais Turbo and a Group A and i bought the Group A (over 7 years back) and will still buy another VL HDT V8 sometime in the future as well. The Corsa Turbo is the best of both worlds and it will be kept even if i do buy a V8 in the future. Now if the Corsa turbo had been included in that article it would have come out as the clear winner being both the quickest and cheapest car of the three. Corsa

I have both a VL V8 and a VLT. In standard form the VL V8 is pretty slow, however my 8 has a 2 1/2 inch exhaust, extractors, mild cam, edelbrock manifold, 650 holley and standard 3.08 single spinner. With that setup I have made 150 rwkw (202hp) on the dyno with the trimatic on its last legs. The car has easily beaten mildly worked VNV8's, some SLR5000 and a few HSV's aswell. So dont fully underestimate the potential of a pre efi V8 as with the right setup they are pretty grunty. BUT I must say it doesn't hold a candle to my turbs...
