Hey I just put an xplod amp in my VK yesterday and i'm getting this horrible engine noise. Not the normal whirring noise but more of a clicking that increases with revs. I have checked the ground, the amp is not attached to any metal and the power wires are on the opposite side of the car to the rca's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you have got a bad earth somewhere. Check all your wiring and make sure the amp has got a good earth. Hope this helps..

It sounds like you're getting Interference from your Alternator, getting a Noise Supressor should fix the problem, JayCar sells them, if the noise is really bad make sure you get a High-End one... 8)

do noise suppressors interfere with the stereo quality at all? I am interested in buying one but dont know much about them!

They work with the Power Supply so no they don't affect sound quality, in fact they improve it so you don't have an annoying 'Ticking' noise coming through with your Kylie Minogue Tunes... 8)

lol @ Kylie!! You funny (sexy) little bitch! pitty you're a boy... hmmm Well, I'd have to say that with my experience with noise supressors, 95% of the time, they don't do anything. Instead, make sure everything is wired in your system correctly. Don't just check your amp. It's most likely your head unit. The noise you're getting was probably there before you amped the system... just too quiet to hear. Make sure you H/U is grounded very cleanly. Hope that helps!

also make sure your power cables and your rca's are run down different sides of the car...

BurgundyCalais, I always follow those guidlines in my car and friends cars as I know how Interference can occur, I too believe that Noise Supressors shouldn't need to be used, but I also know that a Car's Power Supply isn't the cleanest in the world... So sometimes you have no choice but to use one in hope...

Yeah thats definately true. I was just hoping that he would try the free option of checking wires before going down the $$$ rout of supressors. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

burgandy, for once i agree with you. There shouldnt really be a need to buy a noise suppressor, and you should check all your wiring over again. Maybe Gut everything and rewire everything from scratch.

Deffinatly check that the RCA's and Power wire aren't touching. A nice shop ran the power wire and rca's together and when I asked them why the noise, they told me it was normal, blah blah, so I fixed it myself.....

if you've got ground loop probs, best do a complete rewire. Ground loops are gay ok!

sorry, MRHELE, you're right... an isolator may solve the problem, and they're a lot eaiser to install than doing a complete re-wire. I just don't know about the cost of them. Are they pricey?
