hey all.
i have a pioneer head unit which isn't working beause it has no power to it. i am hoping someone here has some idea on where to look for the problem.
the stereo is run from the #8 fuse. it was working fine with a fuse in the #8 slot. but when my stepdad was doing some electrical repairs to the #9 fuse slot... he decided the #8 fuse slot also needed repairs (it was slightly melted down underneath i think). what he did was modify the fuse box so that now the #8 and #9 fuses are actually not in their normal slots (i dont know the name for this, but he has cut into the orange wire which would normally lead up to the fuse slot and put his own wires in to lead to the fuse). this was done to bypass the melted fuse slots. now the fuse sits outside the normal slots.
i dont know how well i have explained myself, but i hope well enough ! :?: i will attach a picture for a visual explanation hehe
since then the stereo WAS working once for a few hours one night. so this tells me the job was done correctly in the first place. but when my brother went over a bump the stereo lost power and hasn't come back on since. i am assuming a wire has come lose ? or a connection was lost.
the fuse hasn't blown.
would any one have any ideas on where to look ?
any help would be appreciated LOTS !!! :!:
thanks
sean

lol @ the drawing..
pull your headunit out and check its still conected at the back, also check your ground etc.... if you cant figure out whats wrong, just get some power wire and a fuse and run a power wire from your battery.. its pretty easy to do and saves ****ing around heaps

hey stoney,
the headunit is all plugged in at the back... and the fuse on the headunit is also fine.
could you please be more specific with the suggestion you had..... thanks mate
i am 99% sure a wire has come loose somewhere along the line, but i dont know where to start looking. maybe under the fuse slots.... behind the deck... somewhere in between... :?:

Why dont you grab a test light and just check your wires one at a time?

If your headunit doesnt work when the aerial is ou then you deck must be using the aerial for an earth ie theres no earth wire hooked up or its not a very good one 8)

VH2o2, it was the same with the original deck i pulled out, wouldnt work if the arial wasnt plugged in, made all new power and earth wires when i installed the deck, so that must mean the earth point under the steering column isnt an actual earth?

Not too sure but in my experience i have wired up decks before and they have worked without an earth connected as long as the aerial is connected.
But if you hook them up with a good earth it doesnt matter at all if the aerial is connected at all....
