how many speakers can u run from the normal head unit. Ive got 6*9's in the back parcel and 6's in the front doors, and i wanna connect up the good quality 4's (i think) in the dash area. how do i do this? can i do it without an amp? Is it then possible to run 4's in the dash, 6's in the doors and 4 6*9's in the rear parcel shelf off the normal head unit????

You'd be struggling to do it with a normal headunit, you might have to consider buying an amp (maybe just a small one).

well u can the wire the fours and the sixes together in series which will bump the impedence to 8ohms, only catch is with a when u do such a thing with a head unit you will lose alittle volume. ie. ur headunit is 4x50 watt leave back channels as they are and wire the front in series(2 pairs of speakers off only 2 front channels) you will only get half the power as the load is doubled, so therefore ur front power output would only be about 2x25 watts hence loss off volume as the power has been cut in half, best way to go is get a 2 channel amp for the 6x9's and run ur front off the headunit in normal wiring configuration.

or forget the 4 6x9s and get a sub... no amount of 6x9s could produce decent bass compared to a decent sub

i don't think you need that many speakers, for example, i was speaking to the guys at jb hifi and they reckon that if you've got a good sub or two, you don't even need 6*9's on the parcel shelf, they reckon that just normal 6" circle speakers would do coz you get all the bass you'll need from the subs!

Thats true Turbo21. If you don't take rear passengers, and have good splits up the front, there really isn't even a reason to have rear speakers.

Mobil is right, Once you get enough sub bass into the car, there is no need to over power it by throwing 6x9's into the equation. If you run a high quality (American NOT Jap) splits, then you will have a clear front stage for listening with nice sub bass. I'm in the process of re-working the VS because i have way too much bass up the back and a really poor front stage. 6x9's are really only usefull for mullet headed falcodore drivers when they got their mates in the back so they can listen to cold chissel as well as the front people. If you want rear fill in the VL, don't bother with 6x9's, and go for a set of round 6" 3-Ways... and anyway by doing that you won't have to cut metal.

Ok guys, if you have enough sub-powered bass in the boot, how do you even it out for people in the back seat too? I ask this because my mate has his sub and two 7"ers in the parcel shelf and the thing is horribly over-bass on anything that isnt r&b or techno. I mean, any rock song is destroyed. So, if you ran splits in the front, and back, then with the bass in the boot, would it sound ok to everyone in the car? I ask, because when I finally put in a system, I want it to sound good to the bitches who have to sit in the back  Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

in my commo, i got 6inch speakers all round, with a single alpine 12 inch in the boot.. with the fronts running off an amp and rears running off the deck.. i dont really care what it sounds like in the back seat, i never sit there, and i paid for the stereo so all that matters really is it sounds great 2 me.. it might seem selfish but its true....

exactly how i think mate! if it's only you that drives the car (or maybe a front seat passenger as well), you just need a set of good quality splits in the front. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
