I always thought that the only difference between the turbo auto and an NA one was the turbo was missing a torque converter but I was reading through GMH manual and there is quite a few (maybe minor) differences. Does anyone know if you can still use an NA auto with a Turbo motor??? As anyone done this?? Also will my 25 spline LSD be okay with a turbo motor too??? Cheers!!

Yeah theres quite a few differences between the boxes, The turbo one has stronger internals, extra clutches, no lock up torque converter. And they can go to a higher speed before shifting instead of having to change up to second from first at 70 they can go to about 90. SO CAN ANYONE HERE GIVE ME AN ACCURATE SPEED AND REVS WHEN THEIR AUTO BOX CHANGES FROM FIRST TO SECOND, AND FROM SECOND TO THIRD? I really need to know this info! I've had a few replies from my own thread i started, but they were all different. Any way you could probably use the NA auto, but so many people break the turbo box, i think you'd be going backwards.

erm.. i guess so. I have an NA, and its fairly modded. The gearbox has coped pretty well with my silly behaviour. If you're running higher boost you might have problems, and i'm not sure why the NA has a lock up converter and the turbo doesn't. But to just plonk around i think it would be ok.

To be honest if you have a turbo then use a turbo box, dont use a NA box as it wont last you a year, Trust me i found this out the hard way where i took my box to get reco and the *******s put a na gearbox instead of a turbo one.      These days watch out where you go because there are alot of people out there that will rip you off. The thing with me is that by the time i found out it was a NA box it was too late for me to do anything. So get a turbo box for the VL turbo or else you will end up like me waiting for a second hand Turbo box or brand new internal parts to pop up somewhere in sydney. Trust me it is not bloody easy to find them. If anyone knows of any places that have brand new internals or a place in sydney that have second hand turbo boxes then let me know as i am starting to crack it.

If I were you I too would go the turbo box. I know you said you were going to dive it pretty sedately, but in reality, you will be tempted and you will nail it at some point in time and if luck is not on your side it will smash it. Comes back to the old saying of "Prevention is better that cure".[/list]

Well the first time i blew it was because i was doing a few stupid things, like holding the brake and accelarating at the same time to build up the revs for take off when i raced a few times. Well by doing that the box didnt last long as it started slipping. So i took it to a place called Georges Automatics in sydney. I told them i needed a reco box for it (VLT Reco box) Anyways that went all well untill i started noticeing (a week b4 it blew again) some oil around the bottom of the box. So i put degrease so i can see where it was coming from. Anyways a week later i was in wollongong and i noticed that i lost 3rd and 4th, so i had to drive from wollongong to sydney at 3am in 1st and 2nd gear max. Anyways went back and they fixed it again, but this time under warranty. Anyways about a year later the gearbox modulater fuucked up and what that cause the car to do was blow out think white smoke. When i first saw it i thought it was the turbo, but the white smoke came and went. By the time all that **** was happening i did notice the box slipping hard, so i had to make the most of it until i had money to build a strenthend one once and for all. Anyways the smoke came back again, and when i noticed it i ****en cracked it hard     So what i did was thrashed the **** out of it, the gearbox was slipping hard when i gave it one mad hit and when the gearbox gripped again and i came to a stop i noticed all the white smoke had gone. So told my mechanic and he advised me it was the modulator in the gearbox that was ****ed. So now geting it fixed, and when they pulled it out they noticed the reason y it kept blowing was becausee it was a VL box and not a VLT box.    Now i am waiting for brand new internals for it as i cant find a second hand VLT gearbox anywhere. The box this time didnt blow completely but i am sure it was very close as it was slipping really bad.
