When you have a aftermarket computer you should not need to change the fuel reg if you choose your injectors and fuel pump correctly. It all depends on what hp you are after but most people opt for Bosch 036 injector with a 600hp Bosch fuel pump, the injectors are rated at 90hp each so this gives you about 540 hp to play with, these injectors go straight into the standard fuel rail. You should be looking at about $1000 - $1200 for the injectors fitted and the fuel pump costs around $450 - $500 fitted Don't waste your money on a fuel reg.

..what HP figure are you aiming for with the engine? Bosch 036's fit straight in place of the stocky injectors and will supply enough for up to about 450fwhp I think? After that I think the Bosch 363's are the ones to get. You may need to upgrade your fuel pump as well to supply enough pressure and volume to the higher flowing injectors. Replacing fuel reg will allow you to control fuel pressure a little more accurately - I'd do the fuel pump before the regulator as I think the stock reg can do alright with a bit more pressure behind it?

I use the 036 injectors. I run my fuel pressure at 60lbs base (0 boost) my engine made 455FWHP and 495ftlbs(670NM) @ 77% duty cycle @ 19.5 lbs boost. I had the one injector tested for spray pattern at this pressure + 20lbs and was all o.k.

..ahh good to know my set-up will fine for 455fwhp. Quote: I run my fuel pressure at 60lbs base (0 boost) ..so is it rising rate or do you have it set permanently at 60lbs? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Rising, just like std reg. goes to 80psi at full boost. (19.5 - 20psi) I use my fuel pressure gauge as a boost gauge, its on the bonnet, so easy to look at when driving hard. injectors should be good for 90% duty cycle all day..........maybe 23 - 24 PSI and over 500FWHP easy. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

..yeah I have a malpassi rising rate reg, twin bosch pumps fed by a swirl pot and will have to get a fuel pressure guage - Autometer make electrical fuel pressure guages for mounting in the cabin dont they? I like to keep an eye on fuel & oil - too easy to kill an engine if these arent right! I'll only be running about 14psi originally with the stock RB20 turbos but will look at getting them high flowed eventually once its on the road - then boost up to around 20psi, she should go pretty well! Its good to know the injectors will be able to cope later on.

Yeah, Autometer make the electric gauge kit (100psi) and the mechanical gauge (100psi) but then you have to use the 100psi isolator kit, which mounts to the firewall and has fuel ging to it on the engine bay side and water for eg. on the cabin side to the gauge. I think its cheaper to go electric.

..whats the advantage of running a mechanical guage over an electric? Electrical interference, accuracy? There must be some advantage if they go to all that trouble to fit a mechanical in the cabin?

Reliability and accuracy.........apparently. I guess if you have a sender and cabling there is more chances of something going wrong.
