Hey all, I've got a 1986 VL Executive, and I'm looking at the options I have concerning stereo gear in my car. In the front doors, is there provisions for mounting any sort of speaker, like 4", without cutting any metal? I'll be making a custom door pod set-up for something like 4's or 6's depending on what will fit. Check this site out for how to make the custom door pods: http://munchio.dingojunction.com/xr2/doorbuild/ I'll also make up a parcel shelf from MDF with spacers for 6x9s to prevent cutting the metal, and making a sub box up for two Fusion 12" 200wrms (FEW-12 is the model number I believe) subs powered off of a Jaycar amp of some sort. The other speakers will be powered off a deck. Deck of choice at this stage is the JVC one that can play mp3s, costs around $300, unsure of model number. I'm open to suggestions, or comments from people who have similar set-ups in their VLs.

If you are going to run 4" speakers in the front you can put them in the original places in the top corner of the dash on each side. To get to them just pop out the vents and there is 2 screws under the speaker covers.

I've got 4" Pioneer 3-Ways in the Original Spaces, Pioneer Head Unit, Kenwood Amp and Clarion 3-Way 6x9s in a custom carpeted Parcel Shelf, except I cut the metal (It was done legally by AutoBarn) and it sounds great... 8) Basically if you want to use 6" Speakers in the doors, then you will have to use Spacers or Pods as the Window will hit the Magnet... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
