Just wondering if anyone can tell me how good these turbos are, I can get a ball bearing, ceramic wheel turbo for the right price and apparently it will almost bolt straigh onto a VL Has anyone got one on their VL, how good is it? Thanx for any replies

...they are generally considered cheap upgrades for RB20DET's, and are similar in size to RB25DET turbos so on an RB30 I think it would be too small to get any performance gain over the stock VL T3. Also having a ceramic turbine wheel they only boost to about 14psi reliably - after that the exhaust wheels tend to fly off. I have a good article on Nissan factory turbo's here: http://www.alphalink.com.au/~hbuckle/gallery_turbotunes.htm

Im not after an upgrade Im after a replacment (blew wine to pieces) Im not an expert,..... but from what I understand a turbo off a 3 litre motor (VG30DET) cant be too small for another 3 litre motor (RB30ET) I would of thought that it would be close enuf to the perfect size. The guy at the wrecker said that it would be a good turbo to get, he did warn me that It couldn't handle more than about 1 bar boost, and said that it would spool up alot quicker causes its a ball bearing turbo, but he is trying to sell it to me so he could be pulling my leg and telling me what I want to hear, he didn't sound like he was lying but I thought Id investigate a bit first Thanx

..if its just to replace the stock turbo and your not really looking for any extra performance gains then yeah its fine, you may get small performance gain but nothing like a high flow or a larger turbo - and no room to take it further thats all. I have heard from guys who out these on their RB25's and got no real noticeable power gains.

make sure its off the VG30DET not VG30DETT as the turbos of the TT engine would be too small. I have heard of people using VG30DET turbos on vl's so they cant be too hard to fit.

..yeah should do fine - just dont expect too much of a performacne increase over the stocky turbo thats all. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

hello guys, I installed a VG30 turbo on my rb20det in the skyline I just sold, It offered pretty good performance increase in that instance but I found it to be more laggy than the standard turbo. It was a straight bolt on with the exception that the housing had to be twisted a bit, I imagine that is would bolt straight up to an rb30et without to much trouble
