i wanna put my battery in the boot in a vlt. just wondering how everyone does it. Do you just run one cable for +12v and just ground the -ve to the chasis at both ends , or do you run a cable for both +ve and -ve.
Also i wanna know how you join at the engine bay and how do you mount it(eg. in some kinda enclosure)
anymore info that i might need would be great thanks
I have my battery in the boot, you can just run one cable, use a marine battery box. use a short ground cable and earth it in the boot. I choped all the cables that connect to the positive battery terminal, soldered them together and to the end of the new cable and covered with heatshrink. make sure you run a seperate cable from the body to the block.
The only thing you have to be careful about it using a non-sealed battery in the boot, if you just use a normal lead-acid (non-sealed) battery you have to put it in an air tight box, that vents to the outside of the car (lots of ****ing around)
The easiest way is to get a fully-sealed battery (not a maintanance free battery) something like an "optima" or "exide Evolution" or "odysey" I have an odysey in my car (not in the boot) they are bloody expensive compared to a normal battery, but they have ****loads more balls and should last for ages and ages
Check out vic roads web site for exact regulations on putting batterys in boots
Good Luck
Just use the body for the ground, no advantage what so ever to run a seperate cable for it.
I have a photo, but it doesnt tell you much, just get a marine box, run the cable and way you go. I have mine in the spare wheel well, but if you want to keep the spare, I would put it just behind the back seat.
