I'm looking at getting Calais cruise control parts and putting them into my VL SL. I've already discovered when putting in the calais dash cluster and wiring harness that it has an extra wiring connector and small black box. The wiring harness I've since found out is for the cruise control facia panel, and the black box seems to be a control box for it of sorts. What other parts do I need to get from a wrecked calais to get it working on my car? Obviously the cable itself and the adjustor that the cable attaches too, but what else do I need? Is this an easy/hard one to do?

I just did that and belive me its a prick, you need to pull the entire dash out and put a berlina/calais wiring harness into your car, it took me four days and was a big big job, but now i have a vl sl with cruise control.

Any tricks/tips youd suggest? I'm pretty sure I can source all the parts, but a list of parts needed wouldnt go astray, and where to install them. The time and effort I can put in, no problems. Shame the harness needs to be swapped over, but I guess it makes sence given the lower models coudlnt be optioned with CC. Know of any websites or something with a guide to doing the conversion?

I could write 15 pages on how to do it, basicly undo the entire dash including the heater box and pull it all out, drop the steering and dont plan on driving for a few days, the harness extends right out to the headlights and the fues box, its a huge job and you have to rewire your alarm, stereo everything. one tip too, if you do it, anything you unplug plug back in or label it asap or you might get into trouble. Another thing to do would be to get a loom and pull the cruise wires out and connect them into your original harness.

Thanks for the info. I'll get hold of the parts soonish, and see how things go from there. Obviously gonna be a fun job Thanks again Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Ive got cruise control on my calais, i rearly use it, and when i do its annoying! Theres always some old fart that pulls out in front of u. It may be good though if u do long trips, but for city/subberban its not that great. Perhaps u should drive a vl with cruise, c if u want it or not.

I was thinking about doing this too, but reading this Post has turned me off it quite a bit... :? Is there ANY way of Installing a Calais Cruise Control on a VL Exec WITHOUT replacing the Wiring Harness? Surely you can run your own wires for the Cruise Control since they would only be for Power, or is there some other reason?

I spoke to a guy the other day who did this, he got a berlina harness and pulled the cruise wires out, there is more to it then you realise though, it has to be spliced into the speed sensor behind the dash etc too. Maybe you could consider a aftermarket kit?

Would it be possible to use an Aftermarket Cruise Control with the Calais Control unit? Splicing Wires isn't that hard, they would all be behind the Speedo part of the Dash wouldn't they?

Probally not, splicing wires is pretty easy.
