..has anyone run an internal clutch slave cylinder on an MX7?
8O ..looks at HSVSUX
I didnt get the slave cylinder with my gearbox and am wondering if its worth fitting an internal slave cylinder - I believe they incorporate the thrust bearing and cylinder together. I have seen them but not specifically for an MX7 gearbox - wondering if anyone has fitted one and what the cost/difficulty was?
I will be fitting a Tilton one to my car at the end of the year, I did fit one to my brothers car, wasnt too hard. The only trick is to get them dead center and spaced correctly from the pressure plate diaphram.
Oh yeah, they are $450 !! 8O . Its the type of mod that makes the car more reliable under race condtions, but costs a lot, and doesnt really improve the car over a std set up.
when I bought my clutch(not yet fitted) direct clutch services said that in the VLs the master cyl wasn't matched to the nissan slave cyl. ie slave was too small or to big, and that effects the how far the fork moved and it wasn't enough. anyway they told me that they usually rebore and fit a sleeve and new piston to it.
But the place where I ended up getting my clutch from was Jim Berry at "Italina spares" in Brissi. and he said they use a nissan gazzel slave cyl to correct the problem. and they are only $30 too. So I will using one of them.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
..thanks HSVSUX, yeah may not be worth it for me for the moment then.
VLCalais - thanks for that info, that reminds me to compare my clutch master on the EH with the VLT master for size. Do you know if the Gazzel slave is larger or smaller than the Calais? Oh and what the hell is a Gazzel (or Gazelle?!)? Would I be able to get one of these from any Nissan wreckers? They bolt straight up by the sounds of it - is that right?
Yeah they bolt straight up. Its a Nissan Gazelle or something like that. I think that they are smaller in diameter so it moves further. If you want i can get you this guys phone no.. as he has them in stock new for $30.
