Hello... I've got a 1986 VL Executive (Auto) with the following problem... The Brake and Fuel Lines (Metal Pipes) that run underneath the Car from the Engine to the Back of the Car (There are 4 of them) are badly rusted in some places... :? Since they are vital to the running of the car, I feel like I need to do something about it. Has anyone run into this problem before? Its an Ex-Coastal car by the way, here are some Options I've thought about... - Buy some new Metal Lines and Bend/Install them myself - Get the Lines of a Wrecked VL and try and change them over - Remove the old ones from my car, Sand, use some Rust Treatment, give them a good Paint and Re-Install them - Take the car to a Brake Specialist and just get them to do the job  Does anyone know if its possible to buy new Lines in either Straight or Moulded form? And at what Cost? Also, does anyone know how much it would be to get the job done by someone else? :?: I would appreciate any help as I am not sure what I should do about it and I haven't been able to decide anything since I've discovered the problem... Thanx Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I have istalled new brake lines on my VLT you buy the tube in a big roll, straighten it out, bend it to the correct shape, need a double flare tool to do the ends of the tube for the fittings, its very easy but not the type of job you want to get wrong. 8O i dont think a decent brake shop would charge heaps to do this for you.

Do I have to order the Metal Lines from anywhere? Or can I just get some at any place that sells Car Parts? How much did it cost when you bought it? It shouldn't be a very hard job, the Lines are only held under the car by a few Brackets and then are attached to either end with Rubber Hoses and Hose Clamps right? Doesn't matter if the length is EXACTLY the same as before? (I'm talking about CM here...) It'll be a pain in the ass to get done, because I'll end up doing the Brakes as well since I'll have to Bleed the system anyway... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

the brake lines use a flared pipe fitting so you will need a pipe flaring tool.

A mate had a roll in his workshop, but just go to a good brake shop and buy it off them or ask them where they get it. you could even run the lines, and then get the brake shop to do the double flares on the ends of the tube.
