Hey guys,
Topic has been covered i believe so ill be quick
I am very close to putting in a minispool into the vl for the following reasons -
* 120 bucks for the minspool centre - i have good mates in the trade who can fit it
* wont break under large loads of power
I do know the consequences in regards to - tyres wearing out - bad in the wet etc.
but who here who does have one in their vl turbo think of them -
if i drive it easy in the wet - as in - stock 6psi and no tearing em up - will i be safe? are they that deadly? how grippy are they in the dry?
thanks guys once again -

Hey!
I have mini spool... I had LSD but it was f*%#ed.
I have VL Calais Turbo with all the goodies. It's on 10psi at the moment, and i've had no troubles, at least you know that if you take your foot off the accelerater it will straighten up!
I don't drive much in the wet, i have though, but as long as you are sensible, i don't see the problem with having one!
Tyres wear out quicker only cos you do skids lol.
You have to get used to the lovely noise but, and cops may pick on you if they hear it...
Remember a mini spool is illegal... Some places won't do them!
Really do what you can for the cash etc you have!
And have fun!
I have one also, its good, car jumps and bucks doin a u turn, I think once you are used to it they are o.k. at the track (drags or circuit) they are great. car will tend to understeer a bit in the wet at low speed. keep all the original spiders and side gears in case you want to change it back.
Well I don't have a spool in my VL but I do have one in my V8 Cortina and I love it because I built the car especially to have fun in ie. lots of burnouts no problems with it and you drive sensibly in the wet because they can give you a bit of a scare if you drive like a "****head" in the wet.
Personally I would'nt run one my VL they are too rough especially if you own a Calais I hate annoying vibrations and noises, but they are cheaper than going a LSD.

HSVSUX - you are happy with the minispool on the track???
once my car is finished i am thinking of doing a bit of circuit racing and was unsure of how the minispool would be in this application. I'm just not real big on regular LSD rebuilds???
They are really good, lots of classes in circuit racing use spools or mini spools. including V8 supercars !
when I first got into circuit racing,I was supprised that a few people were running spools/minis, you would think that a LSD would be much better, but after finding out that half of all circuit cars use them and running one myself, they do a great job. Even round a real tight hairpin corner they feel good (no bouncing / loss of grip / oversteer / understeer)
I am trying to covert to MPEG a video tape I have of my car comming out of a hairpin corner with the inside front wheel 12 inches off the ground right through 1st & 2nd gear, so I can post it on the site. this was using a mini spool and no rear swaybar.

hehe - that would be a great video. what was the deal with not using a rear swaybar, is it to help the rear end squat for traction???
It was to get the car to "hook up" on low speed turns, front swaybar used to be a 30mm adjustable whiteline, even on max it was not hard enough to have the car "neutral" with rear bar on minimum setting. now I have made a custom moly front bar that has 4 times the rate than the old one, now I can use the rear bar on 1/2 setting with no oversteer problems.

Umm.. I'd like to say, If you have the car sideways, and you take your foot off the accelerater, it will whiplash back and spin the car around totally... Not a happy thing..
I wouldnt go saying stuff like that, yeah fair enuff if you get a bit of wheelspin when you take off, u back off it will straighten, but, if your fishyin, or drifting, taking your foot off like that will cause the car to whiplash and spin.. really not a happy feeling
fu<king stupid boards.. i just spent 20 mins typing out a warning re: minispools on here and the fu<king thing wanted me to log in again and erased my comments...
anyways... here it is again... (the short version)
if you are just driving the car on the street, and have no need for a VERY strong diff centre (ie, you keep shattering them) - then DO NOT GET A MINISPOOL.
They are FUN, and controllable if your not stupid about it... but i found out the hard way why they are illegal on the street. If you get into a tight situation - then not only do you have a hard time bringing a car under control without a minispool - its even HARDER with a minispool, and could mean the difference between a small accident to writing your car off, or worse. i found this out personally - its the reason i have been off the road for the last 8 months.
thats just because u cant drive mark ive had mini spools for the last 11 yrs and are the best thing u can have also ahd a lsd and was forever getting it retightened.300+ bucks a hit
