sounds awesome man, only thing is the pioneer headunit, I personally dont like them, unless you're getting one that costs $1500... i prefer the alpine ones...

Hey Mate, The system sounds good... apart from the 4" in the door. The factory door pods hold 6" so you'd be better off buying splits. For the sake of quality audio, don't buy Pioneer 6x9's... the cones on them a so shallow, and the magnet size is only just useful for a fridge magnet. I just bought a set of VDO top of the range, and sounds AWESOME. You can't go wrong with Rockford subs... they kick ass. Also, take my word for it, the sub facing through the rear seat... VERY good idea!!! Basically, if you wanted a good guide to buying the gear, check out the article on the main page of calaisturbo.com

Deffinatly go with some 6inch splits, not worth wasting the money on 4's. Also correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't it much easier to tune a system if all the subs are facing the same way??

Platinum - Yep, the VDO's i have are the Chrome ones.... sound amazing. When you compare the depth of the Pioneers to the VDO cones, you'd swear Pioneer were using a flat cone. And Mobil, You're right in a way there, it is better to have all the subs in the boot, or all facing in, but if you run separate amp, and have a good seal between the boot and the cabin, you should be ok.

MY88VL where exactly are you saying that the factory door pods hold 6"s?? When i installed my 6.5"s i had to cut away at the metal in the door below the window winder. There was a space towards te back of the door that could have held 6" drivers but that wouldnt have done much for the front imaging of the system. My advice would be to possibly mount 6"-6.5" drivers in the doors at the front near the winder with the tweets mounted in the factory 4" position in the dash firing either up at the windscreen or aimed toward the seat, however just experiment and see what you like. Bluetac is always a good idea when experimenting where to place the tweeter. As for the subs maybe you should stick with an even number of subs like two or four. This will help with the loadings on your amps. Just out of interest, what amps are you planning on buying? are they 4-channel, 2-channel, 1 ohm stable, 2 ohm stable?? are you planning on running the other speakers off the amps aswell??? Plz provide more info

VL Commy - The car in question is a VR Commodore, and as far as i know, they ran the same Door Pod setup as the VS, which have 6" in there out of the factory and the tweeter in the dash. I'm not certain that the VR is the same but if it is, just undo the screws on the handle, the bottom of the door car, and remove the winder, and plastic lock thing. You should then be able to get into the speaker to mount it. 6.5" may need some work to get it to fit, but 6" should be fine. I'll go out and get a few pics later.

Also with having the subs facing in different directions you will most likely end up with the bass being out of phase. You will get the bass coming into the cabin from the forward facing sub slightly before you hear the bass coming from the rearward facing subs.

I thought so... In a VL you don't really have many options... i got some custom pods made (you can get similar ones from JB HiFi). They just bolted to the door frame and only needed a small hole. Oh this is the VS Door Pods i was talking about, i think they're the same as the VR. And the Tweeter Location - Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
