It will help you to get an "Apprenticeship" if you learn to spell it. I don't think you can really get a proper apprenticeship as such in that as it really isn't a job that it takes a full term apprenticeship to do - nor am I sure it really is a trade in a specific sense. Hey, maybe I'm wrong though. I know of a guy that did work experience at a place for 3 months, within 1 he knew pretty much everything the guys that were working there did. I'm sure you have to be really good to do custom pro installs and **** but for day to day stuff it's really just cutting holes and wiring speaker into em

yeh well that is what i would like to get into the custom installations and ****. sorry about the spelling i just can't be ****ed today..had a rough one today( long story). I recently went to autobarn in ringwood where a guy told me that its not really need to go to tafe or anything, he just got a2 year "Apprenticeship" and now he does what he does.

I work in a New Apprenticeship Centre in Tassie. I don't believe there is an actual Apprenticeship in Car Stereo Installation but I am aware that the Autobarn trainees down here actually do a Traineeship in Retail and as they are working at Autobarn they would be taught how to install stereos anyway, even if it is not part of the Traineeship. I could be wrong and standards could be different for where you are but it depends on where you get a job. If you get a job that installs stereos and plays with cars then you would probably just do an Automotive Apprenticeship and have installing stereos as an off sider skill that you just learn. It may just be easier to see if TAFE can offer a course in Car Stereo Installation or something similar like an Electrical course or something. But I would say that it depends where you work as to what Apprenticeship/Traineeship you do and depending if you do it through TAFE or through an Employer. So my advise to you is to go to your nearest job agencies that offer Apprenticeships and Traineeships, register with them and put your interests as car stereo installations and they then should pinpoint it down to places that do that whilst offering retail or automotive Traineeships. Hope that helps and didn't confuse you. Louise Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'd just do a few tafe courses in the relevant area's... then just start applying for jobs in the area. In that industry, its all about experience rather than qualifications, as there isn't really a formal qualification you can get in "Vehicle stereo installations" Try something like an electrical engineering, maybe cabinet making, and something else relevant... possibly a design course

There is a Cert 2 in car audio, TAFE run it. Look in a VTAC guide for it. I saw it last year when I was trying to figue out what I wanted to do at uni this year. I think the course is held in the eastern suburbs somewhere. Cheers Kingyvl

I have done this course guys, if you are electronically minded and maths orientated you would enjoy it. You will make a power supply, your own sub box and a tool box. Overall interesting course.

It goes for 1 semester. Roughly half a year. Classes are booked out for a while though, there's a huge waiting list.

Yeh, if you find that your TAFE runs that course great (but i dont think many do). Otherwise it would probably be wise to do some kind of pre apprenticeship in either electronics or cabnit making and maybe just look for some work experience in the car audio area. Not only will you be on your way towards what your after, it would be a great backup to have (electronics etc) as its a more common job.

Although the course is intresting im sure, its not necessary. Do installs, make a folio- sell yourself, its that easy! Once you start doing decent custom work you get noticed.

This course is a BIG advantage to get a job in the industry as it is a widely recognised course, and will help your chances in getting into the field a lot greater with the certificate, it was one down here in the south east eastern suburbs mate, I dunno if that is too far for you.

Not many people have done the course as the course was only run first time exactly 1 year ago Semester 2 of last year. There used to be a similar one before that, but it is only finishing the second run of the course now.
