My mate is currently looking into purchasing an LS1 engine of some description for his next project.
Does anybody know any wreckers or parts places that deal with GM LS1 engine sales.... or is it simply a case of having to siphon through all the damaged vehicle sites and going about it that way?

I'd say grab something like Parts Peddler, and go through there... i know there are companies that do sell them.
And isn't the LS1 just a newer version of the 350 Chev?

I doubt it - at least one that deals with LS1s specifically - given they have not been in this country that long in production cars. You never know though, worth a try.

Cheers fellas
Found a few good American based sites that sell complete LS1 'Crate' engines .... phewee these babies put out some stock power. Found a few Aussie places that import the LS1 as new... but yea ... i suppose they haven't been in production long enough to see seconds.

Perosnally, I would try and find an Aussie 5.7 L. Much better motor - rare as rare though. how much do the LS1's go for ?

LS1's according to street commodores about a year ago (september 2001) were going for $7500 second hand from the states. I'm with Panther VS, although not as powerful in stock form the holden v8 is more reliable, as everyone has heard about the ls1's excessive oil problems, and if oil pressure drops badly =rebuild. I'm not entirely sure but i heard that the holden 304's are better to supercharge, as there block is meant to be tougher, due to the extensive motorsport history of the engine. But then again I'm not a mechanic, far from it,
Cheers

Yeah the ls1 do have oil consuption problems. My dad had to get his engine rebuilt due to it but when they rebuild it they put ls6 parts in it so u come out lauging if all goes well. Try an oil catch can or a vally cover (u can only buy the vally cover from America) but it does stop the oil consuption and stops oil going into the inlet mainford when u accelerate hard. Being an aluminium block it is not as tough as the 5L but there are people out there supercharging and not having any problems.
