With my 87 N/A 5 spd VL, in deacceleration from above 3500rpm (in gear changes, eg. quick throttle closing) there is a loud suction sound which comes from the engine bay, i am having people coming up to me left right and centre saying "your BOV sounds kinda different, what boost you running?". Just wondering where this sound would be producing?? Air box?? I havent come accross this sound quite like it in driving other vl N/A's. Could i have an air leak somewhere?

do you have cold air intake? a couple of people have noticed with their cold air setup that they get this sound

i get lots of popping and gurgling when slowing down especially in 2nd and 3rd (auto) in my near stock n/a. its always done that.. dunno why. i thought at first it was running rich.. but fuel economy is about where it should be(~12-13l/100k around town) so it beats me sounds cool tho

Nah i havent got a cold air intake yet, installing that tomorrow.

yeah, when i peak the n/a out at bout 4500 revs, i get a high pitched whistle coming from under the hood until i change into a higher gear. people always think im running a turbo, coz it sounds like its spooling up severe......

I had that whistle with my auto, if i locked it into 1st gear, sounded very much like a turbo spooling up. as for the gurgle, i get that when im decelerating as well, and i find that when your decelerating, just tapping the accelerator ever so slightly, will make it gurgle and pop some more, i think it sounds cool.

When i slow down with my auto i hit the power button then give the accelerator a sharp tap. It drops the vaccumn in the engine and helps braking. Sounds cool.

The gurgle sounds your talking about is caused by the exhaust type, sports exhausts will always have this run down gurgle and the gurgle will be different depending on what engine and muffler you are running. But generally VL's with 2 1/2" sports will produce a nice run down gurgle Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

my vl 5peed gargles and stuff and wehen i rev it out <4600> and shift second the uni filter goes (suuccckkk) as i apply the clutch everyone rekons its sounds good and different, turns heads to, but they must think im a ****head when they see those four stock 14'' on the biattchh..

My na 5 speed makes the same whoosh nosie from the cold air intake duct as i change gears. Ive had several ppl comment on my BOV hahaha! I also get a loud rasp from the engine if i rev it out and let the revs drop suddenly between gear changes. It sounds like the lifters are rebounding and vibrating, but not sure. Ive also heard other types of 6 cylinders engines do it too, e.g 202s I also get the gurgling and popping from my 2.5inch exhaust as i slow down through the gears. I reckon it sounds old n worn out like a gemini when it does that!

yeh, i get the cool "spooling" sound in first and second when im really up my auto sounds kinda cool, some ppl reckon it sounds turob"-ish".. no cold air yet, ill get there one day.. get a little bit of run down grumble, full stock zaurst Joel Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
