5.0L commodores are a no-no for P platers in vic, however 4.9L falcons are allowed. I used to drive a 351 (5.8) on my p's in vic, but got away because it was registed as a 4.9, and the engine numbers said it was a 4.9. i thought vnss's were 185kw too??

VN SS's are 165kw, and yes, you CAN legally drive them in Vic on your P's.

I am pretty sure the 180kw VN SS was the HSV enhanced model.

this is wierd because my mate has a vn ss and the the cops said it was fine! he has been pulled over heaps of time by cops! (2 points left) and only one of them said "are you aloud to drive this" my mate said yeah, and that was it! i would look into it further before you stop driving or anything like that! this is in melb too!!

The fine he got was $275, they told him he was not allowed to drive it, on the vic roads web site it has that he can't drive it but when you work out the weight agianst power he can it's 125kw per tonne, VNSS weigh 1350kg and you are allowed 125kw per tonne so if you work it out he is allowed 168 kw and it's only 165kw factory.

P Platers can NOT drive a 5.0l car FULL STOP. Police arent always right, as much as they wish they were. Power to Weight restrictions are a joke.. how on earth can they enforce it without an on-the-spot dyno run?

I had one on my P's in Victoria, got pulled up a couple of time and got told I couldn't drive it, they said I would get a letter in the mail but never got it. There are two ways of working it out, Engine size (Ltrs) per tonne and KW per tonne, it was legal in Kw's(think it 127kw per tonne) but in the Ltrs per tonne it was just over!! Good luck to you're mate I had a ****en blast in mine!! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ex-static is dead right, you cannot drive the 165kw VN SS on your P's. My mate has one and one cop pull's him over and it was fine nothing said about it. Two weeks later he gets told he can't drive it and they will take it off him (which they can't do) if he's seen driving it. It's the same with all road rules, they vary with differant cops. I did the sum once to prove my point about my VLT and it worked out o.k. for the VL but I think it was just under for a 5ltr, my maths is **** but I'm pretty sure I was right.

You can drive a VL turbo on your P's power to weight is ok but if you had a VL with 200 + rwkw you would more than likely get epa and defect notice for things like coolers etc. it only goes on factory power.
