Hi All, Before I bought my latest VL, I had an '86 VL Berlina with a 5 speed box and the whole thing was as stock as they come. I sold it at Willowbank the night I ran 13.9 @ 118mph. I'll let you in on what you should do. 1. Seal off the little air intake snorkle and cut a hole through the bottom of the stock box. Using 90mm PVC down pipe, and 45 degree connections, run the pipe to just behind your front spoiler. Put a K&N panel air filter in the standard box. Don't think about using that flexible piping for the cold air, it's not as effective. 2. Have the cylinders bored 30 thou 3. Fit high compression forged flat top pistons. I used Ross pistons 4. Shave the head 20 thou 5. Have the head heavily ported, polished and hi-flowed 6. Fit Pacemaker 1.75" mandrel bent extractors, a 2.5" mandrel bent pipe from the extractors to the 2.5" high flow cat, then a 2.5" mandrel bent pipe to the straight through Lukey muffler and a 3" mandrel bent pipe from the muffler to the nice tip 7. Stage 3 "Crow Cams" cam 8. Bosch Motorsport fuel pump 9. Bosch 150 390cc injectors 10. Haltech computer with active 3D ignition and fuel timing adjustments. I put a VL turbo LSD onto it and it tell you, it ran like a dream. It all cost $12000 including the price of the car. Other than the engine mods, the car itself was shmik. I did most myself, but the things that I couldn't eg:- shaving the head, boring the cylinders I had done at trade price. The joys of being a panel beater/spray painter. If anyone needs a hand getting hold of something I can be of help. I hope this post has been useful to some, and not just a waste of everyone's time. Although N/A's that are done properly are good, turbo's kick ass!!!

Now theres some good info and a person who can justify a quick time with the mods and explanation. Just a question QIKHDT what did your final compression ratio come to? oh and did you use a custom fuel rail or did those injectors fit on the standard one?

jesus christ qik hdt!! nice work! 13.9 out of an n/a? i didnt think that was possible.... id love to see what that thing would pull with a turbo wacked on the side i dont think my car would be able to pull a 14 with those mods. my n/a is a little tired which is why i wana get rid of it - done 280k kms what was the condition of that engine that pulled the 13.9? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah people go on about how **** the NA RB30 is, but it still uses the same conrods, same crank, same 7 main girdle. In less words "they are ***in tough engine"

The only people who I have heard bag any RB30 are import Skyline or Silvia fans who bag it for being a single cam engine, also by saying an Rb20 is a better designed motor, when in reality an SOHC RB30 head flows as good as an RB20 DOHC head, also that the RB30 has bigger & stronger internals such as the crankshaft. Fitting an RB25/26 DOHC head onto an RB30 in either turbo or non turbo form makes an RB30 the bees needs when it comes to both streetability and revvability, not like the smaller cubed engines which are only good for the racetrack.

I'm more than sure about the MPH. I'll post a copy of my time sheet to show you all that it's genuine.

Qik HDT: Can u post the specs of your stage 3 cam please. Can you also explain why you needed a bigger fuel pump/injectors....I cannot imagine the mods you have described making the car use any more than 20-30% more fuel than standard. Cheers.
