Yet another post - some guy was saying that if I was to get the RB25DET engine to put in a std VL, i should buy a 1/2cut, cause it would save a lot of wiring hassles.
Although, how can it when the 1/2 cut is probably a skyline?
PS> I'm a first-timer at the whole engine-conversion scene, so ANY help / experiences / stories are appreciated. cheers
Get the half cut.
Got rocks in your head if you dont.
Atleast that way its all there and complete, its always the little **** you dont get in engine packages. For instance throttle cables, intake piping, nuts and bolts etc. Sometimes wrong looms, ecu's etc.
Atleast with the half cut your got most stuff and its already laid out so its a straight forward conversion.
Plus you can look at odometer for the k's on the motor, somtimes they are wound back anyway though...
Mick
I would go the engine package, only if it came with uncut loom, ecu, airflow meter and anything else that is needed to run the engine. All the intake piping is ****e anyway(for intercooler) so you should get a good fmic and do it all.Since it's not a skyline, most of the bits that come with the front-cut are useless to you.Yeah you could flog off the bits but can U be bothered.
Yeah, so it seems that if I want to make life easier, i'd go the 1/2 cut i guess...
seeing that the RB25DET engine/comp/loom/auto box package is around $3000-$3500 (if there's a better price, please tell me!), how much are 1/2cuts going for?
Around 3500 for auto halfcut and around 3800/4000 for the manual.
Obviously you can get them cheaper or dearer, but the above is the prices i usually see from most import wreckers.
If you dont get the half cut, dont say i didnt tell you so...
Ask anyone that has done a conversion without a full halfcut, and ask if they would go the halfcut route next time, i can guarantee they will say yes as it makes life a hell of alot easier.
Cheers
Mick
