Ive flushed and drained pretty much all of the power steering fluid from the lines and reserve. I filled the reserve, started the car for a few secs, topped it up again, and started the car for a a few more secs. till the fluid was constant at max level. then i 'bleed' the system as described in gregories, by turning lock to lock a few times. But, that still brings me to two problems. 1) the power steering pump is making some real ferrel noise, especially when turning the wheels. Steering chatters, not smoth at all, feels like its all gone to ****. Now, it feels as if the rack isnt even working, as hte steering is hard to turn, dispite the racket comming from the power steering pump. I took the pump belt off, no noise, so the pump has a problem. When i leave the car settled, i noticed that there is hardly any fluid in the reserve. start the car, and the fluid almost instantanously comesm from nowhere back in the reserve. I thought i might have had my power steering reserve pipes connected the wrong way, but from the diagrams i have seen, it looks to be right. Wavey/ripped hose on the top connecting to the crack, and smooth hose connecting to the pump, via some metal piping. Any suggestions? i didnt have any problems before. I hope it aint the rack, bitch fo a job to replace!

i had the same prob on my old car (not a VL though) the fluid was boiling due to a blocked high pressure hose. it soon **** itself and took the pump with it. prob best to get it checked by a proffesional. andrew

if your pump is makin noises while it has heaps of fluid.... i would say that your pump is shagged!

the sound could be the pump cavitating - but if you bled it like you said it shouldn't be. Did you run the car at all while there was no fluid in the system? - if so the pump may have been cavitating which could have damaged the internals of the pump and making it make that noise all the time. I cant think where the oil is going when you stop the car - maybe still air in the system somewhere.

Sometimes if you leave it for 24 hours it will self bleed. I've had this trouble at work, you go to move a car after the fluid has been drained and refilled/ bled and it makes the biggest c*nt of a noise. I usually just leave them overnight and theyre fixed. Dont know how this works but it seems to.
