Can anyone tell me info about the dash board covers on a VL? I ask of this because i recently had my VL Berlina in at a Auto Elec getting the oil pressure and fuel gauge fixed and apparently the previous owner had glued the cover on! so they then had to un-glue it, fix the problem then glue it back because the screw holes were fu*ked because of the sun so the dude said. How are the dash covers on?
My dad and i also noticed that the dash cover and the little square plastic cover in the centre near the window were different colours to the rest of the dash.
Any info will be great.
Tim
p.s i will *hopefully* have pics of it this arvo (whole car that is)

Mines just sitting there... no screws or glue

When i bought my car the dash was immaculate because the previous grannys had treated it with armour all or something.
That meant that the sticky back velcro strips wouldn't stick. I didn't want to glue a dash mat on either.
any hoo just get those plastic covered little wire things that keep wires etc. together. Black ones are good cos you don't really notice them.
tie the mat down by threading the wire thingys through the speaker grill on the dash and the holes for the speakers on the mat at each end. twist to tighten!
There you have it-bloody complicated explanation for something simple.
works on VS commies too.

well at the moment.. mine just sitting there! lol
but i found on my old car.. get some of the small dress making pins, cut them down a little and just stick them in the corners into the actually dash!!! worked a treat.. and no sticky mess like with the velcro!
cheers

18-08-02, 10:42 GMT+10#11 heaps of the insrument cluster covers rattle, wobble, and squeak.. its a common problem with them unfortunatly...
my carpet dash mat is held on at the drivers side by the boost guage (screws through the dash mat into the speaker grills). keeps it there nicely. The passenger side sometimes slips a few cms down, but a quick shove and its back up in its place...

18-08-02, 16:22 GMT+10#12 that box plastic bit that houses all your buttons for rear-defog, cruise, etc. is held on by two screws.
these tend to break when your taking it off for a stereo application, or whatever reason your doing it.
a tight dashcarpet, and some hot glue will hold it on well enough, but yes you will get bump rattle and so forth.
come'on, the cars at about 15 years old now

18-08-02, 17:40 GMT+10#13 A similar thing happened in my mates car, so what we did was got some allen key head self drillers fron the bearing shop and counter sunk holes into the plastic cover what go over the screws and put the screws back in through the front. All you can see is the allen keys what are black anyway in the covers and it is a tight fit and has no rattles at all!
