Hi, I just got a complete set of 12 new lifters (and basically every moving part above the head except the springs) from a breaker's yard. None of them are chipped or damaged, and my current ones are making nasty tapping noises even when the car has warmed up. I want to replace them, and I've got a couple of questions... I'm using fully synthetic oil in the engine at the moment, and the engine it came out of had filthy oil, is there something I should clean them with first before putting them in? I've got 4 'rails' of them, and am not sure which order they go in. The rockers have numbers on them, which I presume refer to position, what number goes where? (my book doesn't list this) I presume that to replace them, I unscrew the rocker cover, remove the bolts holding the old ones in, bolt the new ones in, put a new gasket on the rocker cover, and screw it back in. Is there anything I'm missing? Thanks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

well to get started, turn the engine to align piston no. one to TDC. take off the air flow duct/cross over pipe. take off the hoses for the PCV system that attach to the rocker cover, remove the throttle cable so that its out the way...then take the screws off the rocker cover starting from the outer screws and working towards the middle. once the cover is off youll have to loosen the rocker shaft retainer bolts (or 'rails' as you call them) and then remove the valve lifter guides. remember to keep everything in order when u take it out have a look at the old rockers and rails in the engine atm to see which way they should go give everything a general clean and then dip in clean oil prior to fitting and everything should be ok
