depends on how much you want to spend but i would say a pair of 6x9's in the rear and either 4" in the original dash position or 6" in the doors. it all comes down to your budget. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Go for one of the low to middle range clarion/jvc/sony/pioneer headunits, spend about $350 there for a good CD-tuner... Get a set of 6*9's maybe the pioneers would be good there -- about 200watts they should be as well as a set of 120 or higher 6 inch'ers for the front... If you want an amp and sub, I have the philips DAP amps, and even though they're cheap, they are pretty high power and have excellent sound quality IMO, as well as all of the low and high pass filters you'll need Rockford fosgate subs are really good, even one of their lower range ones are pretty good, or else the kenwood tornados are a little on the cheaper side, but the 800 watt 12" really goes well as does the pioneer checker plate type range -- i'd say just start with a single 12 or two 10". including some decent wire and fuses you should get out of it for around $1100 for somthing that is nice but not over the top Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

hey chriz i did this to my car 1.5 years ago, buy a good medium level cd-tuner headunit, buy decent brand 6 x9 rear speakers and some 4" front speakers and get a 18mm mdf shelf made for the rear speakers as it will improve bass and means they won;t come flying off and hit u in the head in an accident...i spent bout $750 all up on my system including installation and i've had no problems...

few questions 1. Do i need an amplifier? if so, what do they do? 2. How much will installation cost around? 3. Say i choose panasonic 6x9", can i then choose sony 6" for the front? thx.

If you get a sub, you will need an amplifier The headunit only put out a little bit of power, and when you have a huge big sub to power, you have to amplify what ever the headunit is putting out... think of it as a supercharger for your headunit No idea about installation, but you can do it yourself, or get some friends to help ya and you can run basically any combination of brands... It'll be decent, it just won't be "thump. thump. thump" more like your average home stereo quality Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i recommend u get a little amp, like a v-net 2 x 50 rms or something similar and run the 6 x 9s off that. for $200 more it will add that much more bass and sound to your system, and saves gettting a sub..... thats what i did for my first system and it went nuts (:

just one more thing when saying u wont get the thump without a sub, quality speakers change that, i run a kenwood headunit, jbl splits in the front and kenwood 6x9's in the rear, all off the headunit which is 4x47 and i feel the thump in the front seats, the back is even better, im still putting 2 subs in though :P it's an addiction Fresh

it's debatable I have a set of top-of-the-line 7x10 kenwoods in the back of mine getting a healthy 60WRMS from an amp, they are alright and do put out a decent amount of bass, just not the same sort as a sub Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah well i'm going to check out stuff this weekend. probably start off without the subwoofer. but if i start feeling deprived of the 'thump' i'll have to upgrade in the future Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah, I'm at the same stage as you guys. I'm definately looking at the JVC KD-S785 mp3/cd headunit for $350. As for speakers, im thinking either 2 JBL GT3-10's or a JBL GT3-12" for the back (would two 10's and 2 3-ways fit on the back parcel shelf?). Maybe 6" JBL GTO 635e's for the back as well (they say they're 3-ways) and then something for up front (either mounted in door pods or maybe get 4" to fit in the existing slots) Anyone suggest an amp (or amps if i get two subs) that are cheap, powerful-ish and decent quality?

I can recomment the philips DAP range they're all of the above, have fuses for each side (left/right) and pump out a fair bit of power. They're chrome as well Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Do philips have a car audio site I can check the amps out with? Also, would it be ok to run 2 splits in the front (door pods) off the HU, then two 3-ways and a 12" sub in the parcel shelf off an amp? What's the advantage of putting the sub/s in the boot rather than the parcel shelf (apart from getting to make the box :roll Also, one other thing. With soundproofing, what form does it come in and where should I apply it on a VL (they seem to be known for noise). And what brands of speaker cable are good? i've got a 180watt panasonic head unit with some pioneer 80watt 4" in the dash and kenwood 320watt 7x10's in the parcel shelf (custom). it goes excellent for wat it is but still have craving for more and more ****, thinking of putting in 2 12" subs in boot and maybe some 6" in the front... ps - anyone seen that "more doof doof for your dollar" sign at jb hifi in nunawading?? lol that's ****ing funny...

Whats a mdf shelf... is that the black plastic thing at the bottom of the 6x9" speakers ? anywayz i have a pair of 6" and another pair of 13cm (5" i think) would it be adviserable to put the 13cm in front and 6" in the rear? or should i put the 6" in the front door and by new 6x9" to put in the back? both 4 speakers are good pioneer speakers!

mdf is just the type of wook people use to make parcel shelves Put the better speakers in the front (probably your 6" ones) and put the others in the back... if you want to, get 6x9s for the back though and they'll sound better and give more bass... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
