Depends really on what yu want. If you want low down grunt and that V8 sound and don't mind the fuel consumption, stick with the V8. For an easy power upgrade, go the front cut, but there's a heap of mods going from the 8 to the six, ie motor& Mounts, gearbox & mounts, tailshaft, front springs, k-frame, exhuast, speedo drive, radiator etc etc. What about fitting EFI to your carby V8?? I have just done that to my VL and it's alot better.

a jap front cut is much cheaper to buy than say an efi holden V8. will use less fuel and probaly make more power in standard form too. Plus, they are easy to get extra power out of, ie extra boost, intercooler etc. Depending on what front cut you get, you may get an intercooler with it. Ask around the wreckers etc for prices on front cuts vs efi V8's. Then speak to various workshops so you can find out exactly what is involved in each conversion as well as an approximate cost.

it's probably not worth fitting the Vk's EFI to your car. You'd be better off fitting a VL EFI 6 than doin' it to your motor.

You can easily get a VL motor with ecu for under a grand. auto boxes go for around the $500 mark. you just need to fit efi lines and pump as well as change gearbox mounts, engine mounts etc, but speak to a few places that can do this job. Once you sell off your motor i'd be very suprised if it came to more than $2500, but I haven't researched it fully. Check things like the trading post so you can get an idea of prices for parts. find a wrecked vl and take what you can off it for cheap.
