i have noticed a few ppl have complained about this topic allready. there is only so much that the site owners can afford , so i was wondering what are ppls views regarding a small contribution or a membership fee. this site is only going to get larger maybe if we did this option , we could manage to get a small mpeg area for us to put in some crazy vids. your thought :?

Thats a pretty good idea guys. It'll help filter out the idiots and also allow for further development. Sounds really good.

Yeah well I'm still a bit iffy about giving my hard earned dosh over the net. By doing that you'll only get the regulars in. Some one will start up a free based one and people will move to it. I think it should stay free and use the linux php scripts to limit the size the number of views and posts a single user can post. Don't ask me how to do this I have no idea but I have seen it done before.

if ppl didnt want to pay what about if you did get rid of old featured cars and parts of the site that arnt viewed as much as the others or limiting to the time that a topic on the forams can stay without a reply????????/ But i think that pay ment is not that bad an idea if its not to much and depending on how much better and bigger the site is going to be

Sin: why dont you setup an account where people can direct debit money in? If everyone gave up $5 of their fuel money and put it into the site it could be greatly improved. I recon almost everyone has saved well over $5 on repairs just from the knowledge that circulates this site.

A lot of posts about how to do things could be copied into a text file and compressed and put some where for people to download, on free space some where. Would just need some sort of search script to locate it and people can download, in some cases, full instructions to how to do things that you cant find in many books. Then just get rid of the posts. Id be happy to go through and get it all into text files if needed. Thats an idea!

I mean $10-15 a month in total would easily cover bandwidth, although as the site grows, obviously it will slowly get larger... Don't worry though, we will sort something out to get around the bandwidth problem I wouldn't be very happy charging you guys membership fees... you know, it wouldn't really be right IMO. We're discussing the options though **might just add -- i'm pretty new really to the whole car scene and this site, so I'd prefer to leave these things up to the origional founders to make the final descision Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Quote: so i was wondering what are ppls views regarding a small contribution or a membership fee. There will be the option for a membership in the future. Until calaisturbo.com v3.0 is coded, this won't happen. Coding it will be a big job as well. I know what I want and Natho has put his hand up to code it. When he get's around to it is upto him. What do people think of $10 memberships? Quote: Sin ? Has this been discussed ? is it an option ? Yes it is an option, and will be included in a future release. Quote: Good idea but if you dont have a credit card or dont want to put your number on the net you cant doit how much will it be ???? You will be able to netbank for a membership. A lot of people have this set up these days. Quote: if ppl didnt want to pay what about if you did get rid of old featured cars and parts of the site that arnt viewed as much as the others No need for that, they are on different servers. Quote: why dont you setup an account where people can direct debit money in? I will in the future. I don't want people donating now and than having to pay for memberships in the future as I'll feel bad. Quote: I recon almost everyone has saved well over $5 on repairs just from the knowledge that circulates this site. Yup. Exactly. Quote: A lot of posts about how to do things could be copied into a text file and compressed and put some where for people to download, I am sort of trying to do that. If you check the other section Wheel, and there is a post about fitting a steering wheel, yesterday I asked if this information could be posted on the site. Remember, I am more than willing to put any info that you guys come up with onto the site. It takes me 10 times longer to get/come up with it, and hence there will be 10 times less than if everyone sent me their expertise. I remember there is a window tinting expert on here, he could send me all his good info and I'll put it onto a page and it'll be there for good. Quote: cool i didnt know that it was at a diff place what about if we had cruxes or suthing like that with an entry fee or something ???????? as like a fund raiser????? just an idea I think people paid a big enough entry fee to the last cruise ;) sin out

Just an idea that has been discussed already, but i still think advertising would be a good option in the future, if a company thought the site was popular enough they might pay an annual fee or so to have their logo or link to their website on the site, this could lower fees and allow more cash to do things with such as servers, clothing, stickers, cruise organisations such as map printing. Also when cruises are organised perhaps a gold coin donation could be collected for the site which would also help. Just my ideas, hope they've helped in some way Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i dont want to sound stingy, but if theres going to be a membership fee of any kind, i personally expect 1-3 new cars per week, and a tech article every week also, and i know thats not going to happen. Remember all the sites that your subscribe to, are full time sites, that upgrade weekly, and have HUGE followings. This site is tiny in comparison to those ones, however it is constantly growing. Sin isnt capable of doing that kind of thing, nor should he have to... this site is more a hobby site, and its an area to congregate with persons of the same interests, ie cars, vl's, performace etc etc. I think you'll loose fans by charging a fee. There should be a voluntary fee, with benefits of some kinds. FordForums has this setup, and it works brilliantly, and it shows, theres never bandwidth problems, its moderated all the time. Its basically a fulltime job for some people, yet they also work other jobs. Think about the pros and cons of a membership setup before you go ahead with it. ie whos going to stay and pay the money, whos going to start there own better free site that everyone will move to etc etc my 2.2c (GST included)

Ask organisations to donate a service or good/s (eg, free car service) in return to 6months (?) advertising on the site. With the good or service donated we raffle it off.. Money we raise goes towards any fee's and merchandise.. Although then that needs to be organised in each capital city on a regular basis and netbank **** would have to be set up to be able to purchase tickets.. But its an idea..
