will a 5 spd manual out of a VT SS fit into my VL? will it handle the power? im tossing up either trickin up my auto, or making it a manual.. cant decide there are pros and cons of both i guess...

I dont think it would be very viable to do so. You'd need a specially fabricated plate so the box will bolt up to the engine, then a fabricated tail shaft, and there is the posiblity that it wont fit in the trans tunnel, requiring a lot of work. I'd suggest either beefing up the auto, or installing a turbo 5 speed. If that isn't going to be strong enough, i'm sure you could get it rebuilt to handle the grunt.

t5s from the vn - vtI are small compared with the mx7 5sp, so tunnel size shouldn't be a problem. i have fitted one into a vh with efi304 and there was no probs for size. tail shafts and yolks are no probs either. but getting the bell housing to suit the rb30 would be interesting to say the least!

I got a friend with a twinturbo supra box that handles 300kw at the treds from a v8. Supra boxes are pretty tough, expecially the twinturbo ones. I did hear that the later model v8 boxes were ****, and they have a lot of whine noise in them. ide look into the supra box... very common modification for high power manauls

Depends on which box is being talked about here. VN - VS V8 = T5 VT SS = different Getrag box, not sure of code. VT2 SS onwards = T56

since your VL 5ltr is a trimatic pattern block (if it hasnt been changed ) none of the later model v8 boxes will fit without an adapter plate or new bell housing . Go the supra i did and has been fine and is an easy swap!

No there was a VT SS Series one and it had the old 5 litre. The VT SS Series 2 and all later V8's were Gen111 :P

the 5 speed GETRAG box is a piece of ****e. My mate blew one and couldnt get ANY parts for it, which ended up costing a **** load for a whole, new replacement box. I looked into this box for when I wanted to go the VLV8 3spd auto to 5spd manual conversion. My end options were T5, Tremec, or a Supra TURBO box. Dont bother with anything else.

read an article in street machine a couple of years ago, compared top loader m21 and supra ect. Supra has bigger and stronger everything and would be a better cost effective solution than a tremec, t5 (some t5s are stamped with tremec so be carefull) ect. cheers chris
