Hey guys... I've noticed that one of my power windows is getting a bit slower.... especially at a particular point it will slow down then speed up. Is the motor on the way out ... or is it something else? I have spares but don't want to change the motors until I'm sure.... Any Ideas??

Go and buy some new window rubbers...... they go hard over time and slow the window down....... Mine is starting to do the same thing..... think you can get it in lengths from auto shops and Clark rubber.

Yeah mine are similar. I have tried to fix them - lubed the tracks etc etc. I think it may be the power (or lack of) to the windows - though I haven't 'fixed' them yet )

try spraying some silicone spray on the tracks it may help a bit.

I had the same problem, I tried lubing the tracksn and all, which helped a bit, but I found inside the window switch had carbonised, and the black shiite was stopping the connection from happening. 5 minutes with a bit of sand paper and it was fixed (better than the 80 bucks S/H can u believe that shiite?) for new switches. Another reason not to buy a ford..... hehe

I cleaned out my switches with some RP7 / WD40, and it sped the windows up a fair whack.. the gunk in your switches can also cause them to slow down.

Thats the switches in the console? The windows are a ******* to put back in by yourself btw.

heya's when my bro got his calais only 2 windows worked.... one of the rear switches was dodgy so i got a new one for $40, now there was already a new switch on one side in the back, so now both rear switches are new.....the passenger front window didn't work, it had power not working but....used rp7 in the centre control and waited for it to soak and after that it worked.....also put some graphite powder in the rubber to help it..... u need all windows workinf for a roadworthy....thats y i had to fixed em

if the front switch is stuffed then the back ones wont work either, if you are carefull you can dismantle the switch and properly clean & scrape all the contacts. You can use a soldering iron to melt the plastic that holds the top bit that holds all the button in place and it can then be taken apart.

If you get to the contacts, melt some solder onto the conacting points and wipe it off with the soldering iron. This leaves a thin layer wich will help greatly. I took the fuse box out of my old XW Falcon and did this coz the fuses werent contacting. Worked great.

Where abouts should I look to score new door and window rubbers? What sort of prices would I be up for? (I have an 86 VL)

graphite powder is the way to go works on 90% of vehicles the age of the rubbers will have a big influence aswell
