I was just looking at my automatic transmission computer (the one floating around on the drivers side) and it has the code "AT1" on it. My car is a 6cyl N/A auto executive.
Im pretty sure the code on the turbo one is "AT2"
Does anyone know what the differences are??
What do they actually control?
Could it have something to do with the turbo model not having a lockup convertor? :?
Before anyone asks, No im not talking about the Engine Management Computer

Hi Mate,
The turbo version is the AT2 however, I am not exactly sure what this computer does!!!
I know someone that took this out (you know who you are ) and it didnt affect anything!!

the transmission computer is used to control the use of overdrive, kickdown, and in n/a models the lockup clutch.
if you unplug it, regardless of the temp and PWR switch, 4th gear WILL be used. and you will lose kickdown at high (80+) speeds.
everything else (low speed kickdown, 1-2,2-3 chagnes etc) are all hydraulic.
btw the reason you get 4th instead of losing it is that there is an overdrive cancel solenoid - so when the computer is unplugged it isnt cancelled at all. you will notice with it unplugged it only uses third breifly then goes into 4th (normal driving anyway). the trans computer un-triggers the solenoid when it thinks you should be in 4th gear.
also the auto ecu tells the ecu when you are stopping so the idle is raised - or something like that... i noticed when i had mine unplugged a while ago, the idle would go right down to 650 (like the AAC was unplugged) and then go back to 750 when stopped. my idle is set correctly by the way, if you play around you'll see what i mean!
hope that helps.

need to loop the kickdown wire. as it is a simple loop inside the controler.
the lockup is controled by the controler.basicaly over 70 km in 4th lock under65 unlock.mine unlocks at idle possition for coast.some dont.and with half throttle or more.and brakes applied.different control programs are for diff ratio and throttle possition.as different size engines have different throttle responce.but most functions are hydrolic.
engine idle is afected through the neutral switch.as the ecu needs to know that its idling in gear or parked.different fuel maps.manuals have a neutral switch at back of the box.
sales gimick to call it an electronic controled g/box.

im putting a VLTurbo auto transmission in my car when i do the turbo conversion, so should i change the transmission computer to a turbo one aswell? would the wiring be different or would the computers be a straight swap?

Im thinking of selling all my turbo gear and the car. And buying something like a 308 VK Calais maybe a VN V8.
Would that be a mistake??

31-07-02, 14:59 GMT+10#10 man sounds like trouble.... your wiring for the turbo will be the same as an atmo if the gearboxes are the same, the only thing you'll need to add is wire for the knock sensor on the turbo motor. thats it. man I've also want to give up on putting a turbo motor in mine and I was going to go out and buy either a 180sx or an r32 gts-t. Just do what you really want to do man.

01-08-02, 16:47 GMT+10#11 i dont know if its just me but i havent been able to get on Ozperformance for the last 24hours or so. Anyway i got acouple more turbo parts today so i dont know what to do, maybe buy a second car dont know. I wouldnt mind reshelling mine but thats alot of ****ing around too.
As hard as it is too say but i lost interest in turboing i think the V8 option might be the way to go. A VN V8 Calais or Statesman would be nice maybe a VR SS, **** knows. Dude i wasnt even going to use a knock sensor straight up sounds like we all need a change lets all swap cars for awhile, jokes.

Hi Joe,
I bought my Calais Turbo Series 2 in 1989 after it had done 18,000kms. I don't know whether it came from the factory like it or if some service person decided to commandeer it, but my car runs an AT1 computer. The car has now done 236,000kms and its still going so I would have to say yes.

15-02-11, 20:37 GMT+10#20 Hey guys,
I know this an old thread. However instead of starting a new one, I will just use this...
Ok my vl is a factory manual. Im converting to auto as I dont have the money etc for clutch and all the other gear, and is the only car we have on the road atm. With the baby due in the next 3 weeks, we need the car.
So my question is.
Do you need the AT1 Trans ecu or not??? Because the car is a factory manual, It doesn't have these plugs for it.
Now I have everything to convert as I just pulled it all out of my other vl. However the dash loom etc that has these plugs, have been raped and cut too the **** house by previous owner...Hence why I cant change it over and use that loom and have the AT1 trans ecu...
Now from what I have read, It only controls overdrive, kickdown and lock up clutch...As the car is N/A
Is this right? And do I need it?
Need to know asap
Cheers Guys!
