I am looking to buy a set of rims with stock suspension i want 18inch rims will they fit on the car ??? without scraping or should i buy them in 17inch ?? i am thinking of lowering the car 2 inchs all the way around and want the rim to sit in the guard without any rubbing after lipping the guards. please let me know
the rims are called Vault stars
depending on styles etc , id say go 18s , if they suit the car get em. if u set up the susp correctly u wont have any trouble whatsoever with scrubbing. if u have enuf money to buy 18s then im sure u have enuf to get proper susp parts. do it once and do it right.
mobile HRT are your guards lipped at all??? that is what ur problem may be doesnt cost much to do either
with suspension mods it will happen after the rims go on but will the 18inch rims fit on the car properly with stock suspension so i can still drive it around till i save the money for the suspension modifications?
I have 18's on my VL and they rub less now then when i had 17's. you have to get the right off set, dont go to wide i think mine are 7.5 inch and my old 17's were 8 inch. It hardly ever rubs now unless i have a full car of people
18's will fit as long as the offset is right and you dont go too wide.
They will look a little weird though until you get your ride height lowered. Big wheels on stock suspension = jet hopper syndrome

18's will no doubt look nice, but the constabulry wont agree. 2" larger diameter than stock is the limit in most states, and since the calais had 15's that limits vl's to 17". Stoopid laws!
The walkinshaw had 16" wheels factory so I think that allows other VL's to have , like you said, 2" more = 18" :?:
that's what i've always gone by and been told in the past...
anyone else know about this ?
Im also currently looking for a set of 17's for my VL.. it is hard to find a nice set that dont scrub. It does depend on the offset. You will find that GMH/ HSV VT-VX wheels should fit no probs (with tucked guards and adjustable panhard bar) cus they are a 48P offset. Older model Commodore wheels have smaller offsets such as 40P and will usually scrub. The offset is printed on the back of wheels, so check it out b4 u buy or try and find someone you know that has a set and see if they fit on your car!

hmmm I'm not sure on that rule, is that overall size including tyres ie. rolling diameter?
My EH has 17" wheels and the factory wheels were 13" I think!! But the rolling diameter is very close to the original due to the tyre profile.

I know the outside diameter is the important part, but not in the eyes of the law, they are just after more things to put our cars off the road for.
