For the people that have done a rebuild on their engine....what are the signs that tell you that your engine is due to be rebuilt??? I'm buying a car next month and the one i'm keen on buying is a (White 1988 s2 Calais Turbo) with about 198,000 k's on the clock! although the car is starting to sound abit clapperd, it is sounding abit like a V8 insted of a 6.....and gray/white smoke comming out of the exhaust. Does this mean i need to get a rebuild done???? and if so...how much longer will the engine last before i need to get a rebuild??? any help would be appreciated thanks :!: Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

could be a number of things, and the v8 sound + the white smoke could be 2 totally different problems such as a misfire and a stuffed up CAS, or wateva, however they might also be linked, the car might have dropped a cylinder, and thats probably the reason its pissin out smoke... get it checked out by a proper mechanic, that can do a few compression tests, etc

found out the V8 sound is just the exhaust so that will be fixed before i buy the car...
