Hey, I've just been browsing the forums, and by the sounds of it, my CAS is stuffed. This is whats happening: Car ran fine down to a freinds place (80ish kilometers away) Got there, it wouldn't start. Crank crank crank crank. Got out, fiddled with plugs, jiggled stuff and generally poked around with a screwdriver. Got it started, ran sweet back to Palmy (another 80km) Now the bitch won't start at ALL, or even sound like its trying to. Got fuel, but no spark - traced it back to the coil, and the coil passes an impedance test. Heres whats got me thinking its the CAS - theres no "pulse" coming in on the input side of the coil - Normally in this model of car, the input "pulses" from 12V-0V-12V to build & collapse the magnetic feild in the coil (needed to get the high secondary voltage) I just spent the evening stripping damn near everything, and testing EVERYTHING, but aren't to sure about this whole CAS thing. Any help.... please! I'm carless - and getting laughed at by FORD people!!

We cant let that happen now can we, so: I suggest testing the wires from the ecu to the coil and power transistor (its all in the manual). Do an impendance check on the power transistor, check all leads, clean dizzy cap. If it still dont go it will most likely be a prob with the CAS...im not sure i can help u much on that, ill get back to you. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Okay, update. Car actually started this morning, and ran for all of 30 seconds, before dieing - and now it won't start. So, I pulled the dizzy out and cleaned EVERYTHING, top to bottom, very careful with the optic plate etc. Cleaned the CAS plugs and every other electrical connection, then put everything back together. Still no joy/spark. Getting confused here - everything thats supposed to have power to it, has power! Whats a new CAS thingy worth? Might try getting a whole new dizzy if the price is right.

Update pt 2 Okay, have now managed to get car running. I had MAJOR corrosion (which I had already cleaned) on the CAS plug.... seems I left a bit of CRC in there.. who would've thought so little would do so much? ops: Seems to be running now, although idle is very hairy. Must be time to do this rb25de head conversion thing 8) Considering the engines done 383,000km and nothings been done - everythings still factory, no smoke... I think its doing rather well Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

now thats a good rading of 385,000kms if your car has had all original parts on it! Mines got 270,000kms and it runnign fine i think! I love these motor hey!

gerbs ur car's a gun! 385k, original parts, although it seems from this site people change all parts at once fixing 1 little problem so yeh, might not b like that 4 long, but yeh, for now ur car's the gun! mine's done 200k still fine, changed welch plugs, radiator, dizzy, lifters and a few consumables, not too bad i guess but it seems the rb30 does hold together much better than others.
