I've had a VLT BT1 auto for about 9 months now and it has nearly 300,000kms on the clock and getting a bit tired.
The car has developed a really bad slipping problem in the last couple months. It seems worse when its cold too.
Basically you put it in drive, put the foot down gently and it slips serverly, then shudders a bit then seems to "vibrate, grab and kick in" and lockup the driveline for normal driving. If you try to acceralate faster, the thing slips worse and then "bang" big time shudder through the car and then no more slip. With the faster takeoff's you can get axial tramp bigtime.
It is amazing how the thing goes from about 5% drive to the wheels to 100% drive in a 1/10 of a second.
It happens when the car is warm in normal driving too. People, wonder why the car is taking off really really slow from the lights but the motor is revving fairly high. I reckon I should put up L plates and pretend I'm learning to drive a manual
I'm trying to "nurse" the car because I can't afford to get the trans done. But its a pain when the traffic is queuing up behind you and you only have 5% drive, unless you floor it and then "bang" and you cross you fingers that you haven't broken anything.
I'm leaning towards the trans, stall convertor, but maybe it could be something else slipping ? I don't think the diff is LSD. How about the driveshaft joints ?
What do the other VLT / Commodore experts reckon, and secondly how much to fix ? and thirdly, how longs it gunna last if I nurse it ( 2 months so far)
Thanks everyone.
Stapla.
