Hey guys I am thinking of buying twin subs, preferably 12s but I don't know what brand to get and I would prefer not to get cheapo ones...Same as with some Amps, i'll probably get one to power my 6X9s and another for the subs...not sure yet...? I don't mind paying the little extra to get good quality but at the same time I don't want to break the bank balance by heaps...
What do guys have and what would you recommend?

Get a 15" sub.
Justa thought

Yeah I would but I guess it comes to personal preference...I like the idea of having a custom boot with 2 subs in there...Just like twin ones I guess

I used to have 2 x Pioneer 12" subs, they were the cheapo base model, run with a decent amp, and they were spl weapons!
But the box was designed for spl...
But also, soundstream rubicon subs are pretty good for their price...
Or maybe look at some 2nd hand items??
I'd rather 2 12's over 1x15" any day... but as you said, personal preference.

don't get an amp for ur 6x9 it'll be a waste just run them off the deck if ur going to have subs. when it somes to subs i got 2 x 12" phillip/VDO and one cost me $110 and the other $89 and they r crazy subs. for an amp to power them get the jaycar response 150rmsx2 that's what i've got cheap and powerful
just go into jb and ask what subs r in this $$$ price range.

turbo chick - 2 subs is not nessacary (unless competing etc in spl comps)
i have a single 12" lanzar sub (very high qual). anyway it all comes down to box structure/design as to how tit sounds and how much bass , everything elkse in my car is pioneer , easiest thing would be to get a quality 4 ch amp , bridge 2 ch for sub and use other 2 ch for ur 6x9. depending on what h/u u have , it may not run the 6x9s well enough. anyway , the choice is up to u , do what ever makes u happy

Yeah at the moment my 6X9 are running of my h/u... I recon now that you've mentioned it I might just get a pretty powerful 4 Channel Amp and a good 12" sub and do as you said OVL087. The only problem is that I live in Tassie and there ain't many shops that I know of around Launceston with good quality subs and amps. Would it cost heaps to get one from Melbourne or would Alpine/MTX be alright?

31-07-02, 09:03 GMT+10#11 Sounds like a good sub but I somehow don't think I wanna pay that much...Nah I seen someone the other day who had two 12" Jaycar subs and i'm inclined to buy some of them at the moment, they went off...If I don't get them I recon i'll go either Alpine or MTX, still deciding...

they are a great sub , but when compared to the average everday person and there setup its prolly not worth it.
my lanzar retails at somewhere between 6 and 700 big ones.

09-04-05, 21:47 GMT+10#16 kicker, good price, gr8 quality and performance, and they dont look that bad either!
not sure about the brand for amp/s, but maybe its best you run ur 6x9's off the high frequency outputs of your head unit and get a monoblock amp for ur 2 subs, and bridge them up, but remember there's no argueing that a 15" will make bigger bass than a 12", and i dont mean loudness

14-04-05, 15:50 GMT+10#17 i think a good way to choose the size of ur sub (in inches) is to have a think of what kind of music u listen to for example for rnb rap music which has slow rumbling bass you would be better off with a 15" whereass if u like dance/techno etc u would be better of with a 10" as they have quicker responce and a more punchy bass
if u want to go somewhere inbetween u should get a 12"
as for 6X9's if u have any kind of descent 6X9's i wouldnt dream of running them of the head unit. now i think the mistake alot of ppl make is buying a cheapo no name amp because of the wattige. this leads to poor quality sound filtering resulting in crappy sounding bass/music buying a brand name amp is a big thumbs up even if it doesnt have the same wattige as a cheapo amp it will outperform it regardless
sorry about the long post hope this helps

14-04-05, 16:07 GMT+10#19 By the way....... your head unit also plays a part in good quality sound. My head unit puts out 600w so its plenty to run my front 4" 100w Pioneer's. Then my 4 channel 1200w amp powers my rear 6" Speakers and my Sub. Works out good and clarity is awesome. Also helps when our cousin installs stereo's for a living!
