Hi everyone, i have a question that someone maybe can answer, anyway i have two COUSTIC 460e amps which are on mono rated at 300w at 4 ohms, and i have two SOUNDSTREAM RUBICON 12's which are 2/8 ohms, i have run these subs on my amps before but the amps specifies that it have a minimum loading of 4 ohms and i am running them at 2 ohms.Anyway my question is, is this bad for my amps, the peak light stays on sometimes but they never overheat and they never cut out under high load, so if anyone has some feed back on this subjet or has done this before it would be good to here from u. THANKS JET-6 ps. is there a calculation for ohms v's wattage output in RMS values?

G'day mate in my experience i have found the better result would be to run those amps in 8 ohm mode, the dynamiocs are better the control will be better that the amp can give the speaker (better sound quality) and the amps will last longer. Overloading an amp with lower than necessary loads is only advantageous if you are competing in a low power class. And yes there are calculations regarding watts v ohms but you may find as is often tha case that by going lower than ther specified impedance that amp my infact produce less power not more, which is easily proved. Hope this helps....

Hey i did a bit more research today and i have made a decesion, i have a COUSTIC xm5e crossover and it has a sub out mono/stereo switch, so if i run it in mono to both of my amps and run a 4 ohm voice coil to each channel, eg one amp both channels used for one sub but two coils supplied seperatly, that way my amps wont be overloaded and my subs wont be over powered, 100watts rms per voice coil. I think it is the best way to go. Any more comments would be nice.

I am not sure if this is a good idea for you to try for if you get the level settings on the gains uneven or if the amps "track" differently (ie the channels don't amps outputs don't respond to the inputs exactly) you could find your self with smelly useless speakers. You would need to test the outputs very closely to ensure this doesn't occur which is quite difficult to do without the relevent test gear and experience. In a word i wouldn't do it that way if i were you... Run the coils in series and bridge the speaker across two channels....
