I am currentlly building a SL turbo and have a small problem...
the problem is i have a single weeler Drum diff..
Now i have been reading forums about disk brake conversions etc..
i want to keep the standard center and buy a set of VL calais 25spline axels... Will these bassically replace my OLD drum brake axels ??
i have heard that the end bearings are different between drum and disk axels ...
Now heres the big question will my main diff housing be ok or will i have to replace this with a disk brake housing ??? Are the housings the same or did holden make different housings for turbo and n/a diffs (housing refering to diff body not center housing).. I have been told by many people cant be done get a whole diff etc and many have said its straight forward , just wondering before i buy these parts can it be done any help greatlly apriciated cheers.......
The diff housing is different, the turbo uses 28 spline axles and the n/a use 25 spline axles, the 25spline drum axles will fit into a disk rear with the disk bearngs installed, if your doing a turbo try to get a turbo or v8 disk end and put that in, if you get a v8 unit you will need to change the gears from 3.08 to 3.45.1 ratio.

so bassically if i have 2 25spline axels from a n/a disk calais it wont fit into a 25spline n/a drum diff...... ???????? also were do the calipers bolt onto i looked on my n/a diff and couldent find any spot to bolt ithe calipers too..

They will but why would you want to fit a drum diff in place of a disk rear? Get the drum centre installed into the disk diff in your car. What do you mean you cant find where the calipers bolt? there are two holes in the backing plates to bolt them up.
cheers man ... i didnt look hard inuff was in the dark.. anywayz my cousin has a 28spline lsd diff at home he isnt using he is going to give it to me...
i have had couple of LSD diffs in some previous cars and not very keen on them so i might be selling the center and changing to a full spool ... if the axels brake might have to go for custom 31 pline and different spool see what happens?? cheers anyway man ..
Breaking 28 spline axles? how much HP did you say you have? If you want to go stronger axles, get a diff shop to put 28 spline Ford 9" axles in it, they are made of better material and are a bigger diameter (except the spline part) they just weld up and redrill the PCD. Thats what I have got and a mini-spool.
Hsv i will be running around the 400rwkw the motor been done by Pavteck i am not sure if you are familliar with this workshop because you are from NZ i believe cant remember... have forged pistons shot peened rods O ringed block etc .. have a rather large t51 compressor (frontcover) and 1.06 exaust housing ... dont know if exaust housing will be big inuf as i had the turbo before i built the motor.. have Autronics manegment etc..
the reason i want to run 31spine axels is: I know its overkill but i rather do it just for piece of mind same reason people get forged pistons?? u know what i mean...plus i found a dude that will do it all for $990 that is custom 31spline axels and full spool center fitted all backlash etc done properlly. P.s nice car i love the rear end setup looks intense.. long ago u asked how to get better times to much weel spin was the problem ??? i had a look at one of the pictures of ur car taking off and the tyres looked hard maybe lower tyre pressure?? cheers man thanx for ur help
