hi, before i buy one, i was just wanting to know what was involved in installing a tacho dash in place of the analog clock? (like after u've gotten to the back of the dash. ie. many wires to connect? need to buy anythin else?) also if i was to buy a monster tacho instead, are these easy to hookup, wire wise? thanks

Hey Dude. It's just a straight swap in the car(wires and bolting it up). How ever if you want the oil gauge 2 work you need 2 change the "oil sender unit" to a "oil pressure gauge sender unit"(both of these are on the drivers side of the block). You will also need to find the light blue wire up under the intake manifold and plug it in instead of the original units wire. With the monster tacho, ummm....I think they are wired into the auto trans computer or the tacho wire it the engine bay. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Actually, the tacho wire comes from the speedo bit I believe. Have a look at it and the pinout .. the speedo cable comes into the speedo unit, and it actually has OUTPUTS that go back into the harness .. these seem to be for the ECU and auto comp (if fitted), but it also seems the tacho drives from there. Anyone tried removing the speedo cable from the dash and seeing what happens? Id hope the ECU/Auto Trans Comp would be able to cope Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Tacho signal wire is produced by the ECU. The wire is Brown & Red and goes up to the instrument cluster, and is spliced to go out to the engine bay. To hook up a monster tacho - all you need to do is tap in ground (black), ignition (Pink), lights (Brown), and tacho signal (Brown & Red). You will find ALL of these wires under the dash or behind the instrument cluster.

moster tachos have four wires, one is black, that has to be earthed out on the chassis, one is red, that has to be hooked up to the ignition wire in the steering rack, one is green, that has to be hooked up to the negative wire from the ignition coil ( located just next to the distributor) and the last one is white that has to be hooked up to a power source that runs off the dash lights ( so they only turn on when the headlights are on). i just hooked mine up the other day. it was pretty easy and im a begginner. for more info and specific wiring PM me. cheers. andrwe
