G'day, i bought a vl calais recently and was told the alarm was disabled because it was too sensitive, althought recently i read in an owners guide that the alarm responds to changes in electricity and that i should watch out for blown lights as they can trigger it, so i decided, hell i may as well give it a shot and turn the activation key in the glovebox, but it still wasnt initialised, any ideas on what else he may have done to disable it?
thanks guys
how i understood it is a blown light doesnt set the alarm off it just doesnt come on which means it doesnt use any electricity which means if someone opens the door and the light is broken it wont trigger the alarm. so you should make sure your interior lights work or your alarm wont... could be wrong though
Yeh the stock alarm is a voltage drop system. That simply means that if someone opens a door, boot etc and a light comes on then the voltage drops and the alarm goes off.
Very ancient technology.
yeah i realised that, after it got serviced i noticed the boot light was taken out, but i think thats cos it was flickering heaps so that coulda set it off, so what im asking is, when he made it not work, how might he have done it aside from the obvious switch in the glove box? is there a fuse or something in the bonnet he might have taken out to make sure it never came on for no reason again?
