I know tyres, to some people seem un important, although those of us who take cars seriously realise that this is not the case. Having the experience of working in a tyre joint, i see people just fit the cheapest alternative without taking into account the performance gains by a good set of tyres. I was just wondering what kinda tyres you guys use and how important you beleive a good set are. Im gonna fit some new Yokohama A539's on my car, and im just interested to see what you guys use, thanks.
Hey Walky,
I've got 2 A539's on the front now... and i have to say, i love them. I got a heap of kays out of them now and they're bald as.
I've just (well in the next week) bought a set of VN Calais rims and Tyres which are Remoulds... I'd put something like Falkens on but the budget is stretched pretty tight at the moment.
I do agree that good tyres do make a difference though....
On my VL I run Michelin Vivacy's (spelling) 215x60x15's They are great tires wet/dry, stoping, cornering and under acceleration.
My last set were Bridgestone G-Grids, they were the absolute crap, no grip anytime and only lasted about 30000km (partly cause of burnouts)
The best set of tires I had were Dunlop Formular W10, but unfortunatly dunlop dont make these anymore, or so I've been told
i have nankang's a no name product from yokohama.
these tyres a cheap and the best they have lasted a lot og km's and r as soft as yoko's. they really r the exact same as yoko's just without the price tag.
i noticed a lot of the cars at springnats i went to last year had them on as well, good tyre

I've have G'Grid 215's on the front and Bridgestone Turaza 225's on the rear ofmy pursuits. G'Grids are absolute crap, they wear badly, are an ancient technology tyre, and have **** all grip. don't even bother putting them on the back.... ever ! The turanza's on the other hand are pretty impressive, i know they stick to the road a lot better than the g'grids, but that is not so much due to their bigger width but the better pattern....
don't be fooled by the wanky g'grid pattern... i was, never again...
does anybody know if there are 225/55/R15 or 225/50/R15 available ??
cheers
Jay
i use good year eagle F1 on my car (235/45/17). They are great tyres, handling wise in wet & dry. milage isnt the best but is better than a lot of 17" tyres.
Yeah I'm with the F1s.... but mine are 225/45R17
I'm really happy with them, considering i got them for $200ea. I've got about 35,000km out of them, I looked after them for the 1st 10,000, but they have copped a fair amount of **** since then.

I use the A539's on my other cars and performance for your dollar they are hard to beat. I used to run on BFG Comp TA R1 255/40/17 they are a competition tyre but are street legal. they dont last very long though and you have to watch them in the wet! (not much tread)
I also have run the Bridgestone S01 & S02 in 235/45/17 but for the money are not that good. Lots of people I know are running the top of the line Continental and rave about them for both wet and dry.
hey mr walky,
u say the a539s are something special, just wait until u put the bridgestone so2s or the pirelli p zeros on, and then youll ee some high performance out of your car, no doubt the a539s are very good tyres but they are nothing special in high performance ranks, ive personally got 245/45/17 yokohama v102s, and they are something to be proud of!

Yeah ill agree that the p zeros and the so2s are great tyres but for the a539s cost, u cant beat them You can pay extra for really high performance tyres but theres no need... I would reccommend also the fm901s and the ss001s "i know i know, theyre dunlop, but theyre good" 8O

ive got g grids all the way around. 215s on the front and 225s on the back, came witht he car and i havent changed them yet. they have no grip what so ever. an excel could probably get them to light up
