How the hell do you get a Head Unit to sit flush in the dash of a VL, from what I can tell the heater (some part of it) sticks out too far and wont let u slide it in all the way. Ive heard that there is some way to get it all the way in (big hammer and some superglue maybe ) but Im f*#ked if I can work it out. An help, ideas, suggestions or words of wisdom are appreciated, thanx. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Better check but usually in VB-VL commodores the head unit gets stuck on the plastic edging at the front - around where the factory stereo was. Particularly the edging around the heater controls (where the plastic juts out on an angle to match the heater controls) and sometimes on the other side as well (where the plastic edging sits against the dash). What I've done in the past is to cut into this edging on both the left and right sides using a really sharp stanely knife and hacksaw blade (and lots of patience) so that it sits flat with where the head deck would sit instead of angled to match the heater controls. Head unit should slide in afterwards... hmm... or you could just use a hammer Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I just finished installing my Stereo in my VL and I had problems with the Head Unit sitting properly as well. Mine is a Pioneer DEH-536 (Same Design as JET-6's but lower Model) and I found that the RCA Plugs and the Antenna Plug hit against the Heater Vents. I used some High-End RCA Cables that didn't have the 90-Degree Plugs on the end and they are the ones that cause the biggest problem, so if you can, try and get some RCA Leads with 90-Degree Plugs on one end. Still, if you're not careful, and you just force the Head Unit into position, it can cause the Dash (When you put it back in) to stick out in the Middle (Even though it doesn't look any different) and cause the Screw Holes not to match up. I got mine in fine and the left side of the Head Unit sticks out about 1MM and you can barely notice. Lastly, about the Security Strap, I'm assuming you have the long, vertical type... (If you don't you should get one, you could probably get one for free at AutoBarn) Just screw it to the Heater Vents with some Self-Tappers, 2 or 3 should do, thats what everyone I've talked to does, even the guys at AutoBarn... Hope this helps
