Hey I am looking at buying either a VL or a VK and I was wondering what can I modify on either of these models? I mean mechanically not like kits etc. Before anyone explains what I can do you might need to explain it in more detail as i'm a gurl who doesn't know all that much about engines. Thankx Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

if i where you, i would buy a VL, not a VK. the vl has alot better engine than the K some things you can do is Put on extractors and exhaust.. Extractors replace your factory exhaust manifold and lets more gases out, these are joined to a catilytic converter.. an exhaust pipe connects to the CATILYTIC CONVERTER, the CAT is there for polution reasons, the other end of the exhaust exits at the back of the car.. explained well enuff 4 u? Cold air intake.. This simply lets more cold air into the engine via a pipe located somewhere like behind the bumper.. the colder the air the better. blah blah blah....

I was leaning more to a VL cos of the engine etc but I liked the appearance of the VK. I was told that extractors ae more for sound purposes rather than engine power? I was also told that i could but a 3in exhaust starting from the manifold and that would give me about 50% more power? I did want to put a sports exhaust on but again I don't know whats out there. whats the benefit of a scoop apart from making the engine cooler? any information is greatly appreciated! Thankx

The VL is a much nicer and smoother car in terms of mechanicals, and will whip a VK stock standard. If you do a few mods like the exhaust and extractors (two and a half inch is the best size for a non-turbo VL) and adjust the timing as well as the cold air, you might get 20-30% more power... If it's speed you want and sleek looks, go the VL if you get a VK, it'll probably be a carby engine which can be horrible (and they are also much slower than the VL ) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

My EX had a VK and he has had so much trouble with it thats why I was really unsure of them. I like the sleekness of VLs but as for power etc I havn't been in one so I wouldn't know! I want my car to have more power and be able to **** over other VL's but mainly I love the power!!! Is there anything else I can modify or add? thankx Ana

get a vl turbo then, if ya really want power they will **** all over lots of things... but then again price, finding a good one and then getting insurnace can be quite hard... Oh BTW platinum, did u make ur own Cold Air Intake, or did ya buy it or wat??

I'm still unsure on the legalities of fitting a cold air intake. has any one had problems with fitting one?

Loca707- your best bet is the VL, if not for power than for the fact that it runs unleaded, is fuel injected, and has way better fuel economy than a VK. If you didn't already know the VL actually has a Nissan motor in it. As said before, putting on a performance exhaust system on the engine is the easiest path to getting more power. Also fitting a performance air filter and a cold air intake are good easy mods. After that you'll have to look at modifying the engine, which can get expensive. It depends how far you want to go. Oh yeah you gotta watch out for other VL's, you never know what you're really up against. Many people use turbo's, super chargers and nitrous. You really have to spend some money to **** on other VL's. Hornet- I have a cold air intake, if you keep the standard air box then no one can tell that you have one! The problems with them come with using a hole saw to cut a hole under the air filter box, and sucking up water. I never had a problem with mine, its also really cheap.

Those are the sort of additions I wanted to know about, modifying the engine. I can't say how far I want to go as I don't know the prices of things and how far you can go with upgrades. I will probably do more with the engine once those "basics" have been added (exhaust, cam extractors etc) my baybeys gonna roarrr! Ana

Modifying the engine. It can never end, you could spend up big in one go and have a rocket ship. The engine itself- Port and flow test cylinder head, performance camshaft, performance valve springs, multi angle valve seats, raise compression. doing this too much can really affect driveability, as in: it will make big power numbers, but not drive on the street well, require a high stall converter or performance clutch. You could also buy a turbo motor, oh its too much to write down. If you go all out, remember the engine could be too much for the brakes, and suspension. And you could kill your car or yourself. Decide how much you want to spend first. Then the right advice will come.

And my personal opinion is the vks are butt ugly compared to the vls nice smother lines (no offence to VK owners, its a personal opinion)

Platinum i'm sorry if this offends you but i have to say it.. i've only just got on here and read 2 threads where you've contributed, one being the 6-7 second n/a 0-100 time bull**** theory that you stated and now this one where you say you'll get 30% more power adding extractors exhaust, cold air and timing... what the **** ? I find this hard to believe... basically that is saying that from the gay factory flywheel kilowatt figure of 112 or whatever, if you add this **** you'll be around the 150kw mark ? not a chance mate. For all of you who think if you make these mods you'll have a fast car..... you're wrong. N/A VL's are slow, if you do all these mods you'll notice a pretty disappointing "in the seat" difference... so don't waste your time... put the money in a piggy bank and drive around your slow ass n/a, until you can afford a turbo. thanks for your time. Jay P.S as for the information you're getting Loco about a 50% increase in power with a 3" exhaust... what a crock of ****. If anything, putting a 3" exhaust system on an N/A VL will prove detrimental to aspiration of getting more power. the engine doesn't make enough power to shove air through such a large diameter exhaust and therefore there wouldn't be enough back pressure and you'd be left with a gay ass sounding 6 that has no go whatsoever...I personally would go 2.25 on a non turbo, with extractors.

No offenense taken mate -- no, I said in that thread it was simply a guess, and i've since taken a stopwatch out and timed it (starting and stopping the stop watch quite generously as well) and IS it the range of 7-8 seconds from a standing start... This is simply a guess as well -- it's just from my personal experience, maybe the 'stocker' I drove from a car yard was a ****ter or had something wrong with it, but who knows, how much of a % (powerwise) gain have you experienced? I'd be interested to hear the dyno figures Quote: Originally Posted by JVL87 I find this hard to believe... basically that is saying that from the gay factory flywheel kilowatt figure of 112 or whatever, if you add this **** you'll be around the 150kw mark ? not a chance mate. I'd say most VL's would have gotten a bit tired over the last 15 odd years, so even with all the mods I doubt most VL's factory standard would even manage to get over 100k/w at the flyweel... I did say 20-30% as well I think that'd be quite acheiveable... but then again I have no figures to back it up, maybe someone who does know the facts could post up some figures... Yep, thats exactly right, no point spending much money on n/a's if you want a ton of power... just get a turbo. Quote: Originally Posted by JVL87 thanks for your time. You could go my route & go for the 24 valve head from a Nissan RB25 non turbo, you will instantly have at least 160 kw at the flywheel, saves mucking around with the restrictive single cam head.
